Hava Nagila

I was expecting basically a funny movie. However, it is also a serious and well done history through time and space of this song. When I showed it in my senior community, some of the Ukrainians started talking about the melody that they remember from their childhood. it was stunning. Highly recommend.

This is only one of the issues addressed in this documentary which attempts tracing the history of the song (Hava Nagila) and dance ("hora", folk dance) which not only Jews but nearly anyone who has been in touch with popular culture in the past 70 years knows or recognizes in the first few notes played. It is presented in an entertaining format, with levity but keeping facts as clear and true as much as can be proven as to the origin of the composer of both musical score and lyrics of what some may refer to as the 20th century Jewish theme song, which EVERYONE loves to dance a Hora to....Hava Nagila!They look back at the rise and fall off the song's popularity, it's influence on other forms of cultural music, the progress of Israeli folk dance & music, conflict between two families who both lie claim to the origins of the song... Sound interesting? You are correct...It is!

Who can not dance when they hear this quintessential Bar.Bat Mitzvah & wedding favorite? It was very fun to learn the song's history and greater cultural impact on music around the world.

We all know about the ancient roots of "Hava Nagila," right? This great documentary sets us straight on this issue ... and everything else about this quintessential Jewish party song, this cheerful celebration of our ethnicity, this beloved symbol of a hope that was realized in 1948. Quintessential? --- not in all circles. Cheerful? --- not to the combatants in the struggle for attributed authorship. Beloved? --- not to many Yiddishists. You'll laugh! You'll cry! Most of all, you'll be entertained!

This movie documented the history of Hava Nagila in a light but enlightening way. I learned many things I had never known about the song. Knowing a couple people who were interviewed also made it even better for me, not that it wasn't extremely well made to begin with. I highly recommend this movie to all!

Great movie history entertainment music and showed the movements of a nation whlle following the origin and roots of one song that has been identified as a Jewish standard

It was entertaining but all the hype about it before seeing it left me a little disapointed. Still Hava Nagila the movie was good. Four out of five stars.

This movie combines history, wit, humour, and interviews over the song hava nagila. It's fun to watch, an very up lifting. It would make a great gift.
