Great fit for "massive" thighs; very effective.
I have some non-specific pain/ache in my left knee, probably due to overuse/runner's knee or just age [I'm an older guy]. My knee responds well to an "Ace" bandage wrap, so I wanted to try something more convenient. So, I ordered this Mueller "Max Knee Strap" as well as the Mueller "moderate" Elastic Knee Brace [size LG/XL], both from Amazon. Both knee braces provide enough compression and/or stability to relieve my pain. However, this one-size-fits-all Max Knee Strap has more adjustment above the knee, so it is more comfortable to wear throughout the day. My thigh, at 2 inches above the knee, measures about 21 inches, which is fine for this Max Knee Strap, but at the extreme limit for Mueller's Elastic Knee Brace. I don't use this Knee Strap while actually exercising [I've taken up rowing on a Concept2 Model D] because I don't need the support for that activity. But, I've been using this both before and after, with great results [minimal or no knee pain]. A good product that works well, and it's a snap [or a velcro pull] to put on or take off, or adjust. EDITED, Oct 2018: I've had the "one size" Max Knee Strap for about 5 years now--still works great--and just now got the "Large/X-Large" size [so I'd have an extra as a back-up]. Comparing them side-by-side, the original "one size" and the current "Large/X-Large" are identical in every dimension, and also identical in materials, construction, stitching, etc. So, unless you need/want the "Small/Medium," suggest you get the cheaper of the "One Size" and the "Large/X-Large."

Not for me! Upgraded now from 1 to 5 stars
I find a warm layer is valuable for treating pain under the skin.* So when I put this on, there was a large bare area at the front and back of the knee - well, the bare front of the knee was obvious from the photo and the back of the knee wasn't bare. Chilly-NOT. I only need the support below the knee, but I can leave the top band loose and this knee strap doesn't slide down like my knee support for Only the lower knee. Definitely not what helps me-Wrong. YES!! Maybe I'll try it and like it if I put it over one of the sleeve-type knee-pain items, but Amazon recommended this to me, and I wish I hadn't bought it. *In fact, I got physical therapy for pain relief, and it seemed to help for all my pains except a shoulder. "That's because it's tendonosis," my PT therapist said. After the therapy I just started wearing a double layer of thick warm fabric over the shoulder and the pain disappeared in a couple weeks.

Nice, Basic Support
After researching and reading many reviews, I ordered two of these knee straps from Amazon. I had previously tried a very similar product by McDavid (bought from a local big box store), but I decided to give this Mueller product a try for no other reason than it's lower price. I had knee surgery over 10 years ago, and I'm just getting back into working out in a gym and playing racquetball. My knees hurt, but not terribly, so I was looking for some basic support that I could put on and take off quickly and easily...and I didn't want something large or bulky (I used long slip-on sleeves and complicated criss-crossed velcro-strap braces after surgery, and I didn't want to go there again). This knee strap has fit the bill very well. I have been using one on each knee for over three weeks now, and I don't think I could play racquetball without them. I really like the small size. I don't like to draw attention to braces and straps, and the several pairs of black shorts that I wear at the gym cover all but the bottom strap, so they're pretty stealth. I stopped short of giving these 5 stars for two reasons. First, I pull these straps around my knee very tight, and the constant flexing during a racquetball game has caused one of the velcro fastening straps to loosen and pull away on a couple of occaisions. The entire brace didn't fall off because the other velcro strap remained secure. After the point is over, I re-secure the velcro strap, just a little less tight than before, and it stays on (I still get support, just not as much as I had before). Second, I am no expert, but I don't think I would recommend this knee strap for someone needing major support (like right after knee surgery). This strap is small, and provides a decent amount of support...amd I'm very happy with my purchase because it is exactly what I was looking for.

The Best Knee Strap on the Market
I have been having an increasing amount of pain and "clicking" in my knee over the past year. The pain was mostly on the outside of my knee to the side and directly underneath my patella. I am very active in biking, hiking and running so I have been very upset about how the pain has effected my endurance and performance. I decided that it was time to try a knee brace and I bought a decent traditional wrap and I did not notice a difference and it wasn't very effective for active sports. I did some research online and discovered that for knee injuries like mine (probable jumpers knee - [...] the knee straps are probably the better option. I decided to try the Mueller on a whim because I liked the idea of upper, lower and side support. When I got this in the mail, I immediately tried it on and went for a bike ride and was blown away. It seemed like my pain had just melted away. The support was amazing, its adjustable, it was breathable. I had no idea that a product like this could provide so much support and comfort. I will say the only downside is that for biking, the support on the back of the knee digs into my skin and is uncomfortable for extended periods of pedaling. However, you will not get so much movement when walking, walking or playing most sports. When I weight the discomfort vs the pain, I will take the temporary discomfort over a nearly debilitating knee pain any day. This product has given me so much hope and I am eternally grateful that I am able to continue to remain active in the sports that I love. I am going backpacking in the Smokey Mountains this week and I was afraid I would have to cancel my trip until I tried this knee strap on. This is hands down the best investment in sports equipment I have ever made.

Best Knee Support for Runner's Knee I've Tried
I started running seriously about 10 months ago. Everything was fine up until 6 weeks ago when I started developing a sore patella tendon, which was sensitive when touching it. No problem (I thought)... I kept running which I believe made my patella tendon become misaligned so after each run,I would feel slight pain when bending my knee. More pain if I bent my knee all the way. Ugh, resorted to RICE and on two separate occasions did no physical activity with my legs for 1 week and cut back my running regiment from 4-5 times a week to maybe 2-3 times. Nothing work, the pain wouldn't go away. Resorted to trying different knee supports: Mueller's Jumper Knee Strap (helped reduced the pain after a run but didn't eliminate it), Aylio Patella Strap (not as effective as Mueller's Jumper Knee Strap), Pro-Tec Athletics The Lift Knee Support (this seemed to alleviate the pain after running but when I tried running with this, the velcro strap kept chafing my other leg so no go), Mueller's Knee Sleeve (used more for post runs for compression support), Mueller KT Tape (this surprisingly lifted my patella tendon and alleviated the pain somewhat after a run when used in conjunction with the Jumper Knee Strap - but didn't get rid of the pain. Still use the KT tape with Mueller's Max Knee Strap for optimal support). But after running with Mueller's Max Knee Strap, it seemed to make my Patella Tendon track in alignment while running and for the 1st time in weeks, I experienced little pain after running. My patella tendon alignment has improved to the point where I'm pain free while bending my knee ... although, I still ice my knee after each run and occasionally take a Motrin to aid in the process. Bottom line, if you're suffering from runner's knee, give this product a try. It may have saved my running career. My only complaint is that Mueller should make this in different sizes. I'm 5'8" and about 150lbs and find that I'm tightening this strap all the way with the velco straps (which also could stick better). Would be nicer if I could tighten even more when I want extra support. I don't have chicken legs either for my size. Rather for my height and weight, I would say my legs are on average to the beefier side. So Mueller definitely should consider making this in various sizes. If you have really skinny legs, you might find this strap to loose.

Meets my needs but...
The rear mesh design was exactly what I needed. However, after a few months of regular use, I find the top velcro strap repeatedly separates when squaring or positioning my knee in angles less than 90 degrees. The velcro nap appears frayed, which prevents the option of a tighter adjustment.

Finally, pain-free running!
Eliminated knee pain from running. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

It's easy to put on
Let me start by saying I have Runner's Knee. In other words, my knees hurt at time when running or exercising and the doctors have no idea why. So I started wearing a different Mueller brace in order to run and provide a prophylactic to me knees. They worked great, but I've been hoping to find a less obtrusive brace that only covers the problem areas. So I bought the Mueller Max Knee Strap. In fact, I bought one for each knee. I've only been walking around the house with one of the two identical braces I bought. It's easy to put on, instructions are clear and accompany the product. However, with just walking around the house with the brace on, the top of the brace slips down. Granted, above my knees have fat, and it might (probably) be that because above my knee is wider than below, the strap slips down. I will readjust and go running this weekend and update my review after. No stars taken off for the slipping... yet. What really bothers me are the seams on either side of the fabric on the back of the brace. It feels like there are burrs in the brace, rubbing me raw. Very annoying and uncomfortable. The only thing I can think is that this brace is made for people that use it over their clothes, or perhaps people that don't have sensitive skin. I'm going to try to find a workaround for the rubbing, like putting a sleeve on underneath the brace, but really, that shouldn't have to happen. My other Mueller brace was awesome, but quite a bit more bulky as it covered half my thigh down to the top of my calf, which I why I bought two of these less obtrusive ones. I loved Mueller until this. :( Sigh... Back to the drawing board. Edit July 25, 2016: I went on a 5 mile run and the brace didn't scratch or bother me. It also didn't fall down and the only adjustments I had to make were in the first few minutes of the run. I ended up placing athletic wrap on each vertical seam (two on each brace), and that seemed to help a lot. The only time I noticed some scratching from the seams/elastic was before the run when I was walking around. So I upped my star rating from 2-stars to 4-stars. I'm not giving it 5-stars because I still have to insert the athletic tape due to the irritation from the seams. Perhaps once the braces get broken in the scratching will cease. PS I bought my husband the same braces (yes, we have 4 total now), and he also has the scratching issue, though seemingly not as much as I do. Maybe all the hair on the back of his knees provides somewhat of a barrier. hahaha
