Pros:Great smell (the wife got a whiff and said she really liked it - it's not "medicine-y" like the Proraso Green with its menthol)Long LastingProduces a really nice, creamy latherComes in its own bowl that fits nicely in my palm - makes it really easy to whip up lather!Cons:Only place I've found it is via Amazon; nobody local sells it! (not really a con, but if I'm running low, I have to plan to purchase more at least 2 days before I run out, thanks to Prime)The bowl is a little hard to store (my medicine cabinet isn't very deep, and the bowl would cause it not to close, so it has to sit out on the counter. Minor nitpick, but that's not Proraso's fault - I'd rather put it away if I can, but the cabinet's really shallow)So this soap is nice and slick - just a little bit of water on a shaving brush, and I'm able to whip up a great lather. I have noticed with my hard water in Southern California that it tends to dry out on my face fairly quickly, so I almost need to have it fairly wet and runny when I'm starting - once I apply it, it's a great, slick soap, and adds a lot of cushion. It feels absolutely wonderful on my face, and fortunately doesn't dry it out like the old Edge Gel that I used to use; plus, a little bit goes a LONG way, for shaving my face and my head. I think I've found a great shaving soap for the price point, and will DEFINITELY have it as a soap in my arsenal. Sure, it's not as cheap as say, the $4 can of Edge Gel, or the $1 cans of Barbasol shaving cream, but it lasts longer, it has a great smell (a nice sandalwood scent that my wife commented on and said, "It smells really good on you, like a man should smell like!"), and it leaves my face and head feeling good. There are a few other soaps that I'd like to try (boutique soaps, for the most part), but this is definitely going to be part of my shaving arsenal in case anything else gets expensive or impossible to find. :)

More barber shop smelling than menthol Proraso.
I have the regular menthol Proraso shaving soap and this one. Both are great and lather well. Really effective for wet shaving with a Norelco or Panasonic electric razor. The menthol is more refreshibg on the face but this one smells better. Classic barbershop scent. Both leave your face feeling smooth and refreshed. So it’s a toss up which one is better. Buy either and you will be happy. Price is great and it lasts a long time. Highly recommended.

New formulation?
This is advertised as the "New Formulation", however it's my first time using this product so I cannot really compare it to the original product. That being said I really like this soap. Since I began wet shaving I have been primarily using Glycerin base soaps. I had been looking to try some of the more premium soaps out there, but they are very expensive. The Proraso line of products seem to share many of the same ingredients as the more exclusive brands available, but the price falls somewhere in between the cheaper Glycerin brands and the premium brands so it seemed a logical bridge between the two products to start with....after all its soap right? How much better could it be? I didn't want to spend an arm and a leg to find out there really isn't a difference. After using this soap just once, I could immediately feel the benefits of spending a little extra money for a quality soap. I find that this soap may not be as slick as a glycerin based soap, but it offers a much better cushion and a richer lather. Also, a little goes a long way with this brand compared to glycerin soaps, so ounce for ounce this brand will probably last as long as 2 pucks of a cheaper soap making it just as affordable in the long run.The Sandalwood scent is great and a bit stronger than other soaps I've used. It has a rich, clean, and masculine scent while you are shaving, However it rinses away clean leaving no scent behind so it will not interfere with your aftershave. If you don't use aftershave and prefer a scent that lingers, then this might not be the product for you. Some of the other Proraso products have accompanying aftershave lotions or balms with matching scents, but sadly that does not appear to be the case for the Sandalwood/tough beard (burgundy container) line. I am basing this assumption on the product information packaged with soap which showcases the entire Proraso line of goods. Too bad, I wouldn't mind having an after shave balm with a matching scent for this one. That aside, I definitely see myself buying more of this soap in the future.
