Another Hit By Molly Coxe
"Big Egg" by Molly Coxe Lexile: br"Big Egg" by Molly Coxe is a fun story of a hen that realizes one of her eggs isn't quite right, and so, she goes searching for the owner of this mysterious big egg.The predictable text and comical pictures clues help children anticipate the dialog as Hen makes each new stop. Some examples include:• "Is it a cat egg" "No," says Cat• "Is it a cow egg" "No," say CowThen hen reaches the crafty Mr. Fox and her journey goes a bit topsy-turvey for the next few pages of the story.Ms. Coxe is the author of many early readers and some of her other Step Into Reading titles include:• Hot Dog• Cat TrapsAccording to Ms. Coxe bio she is currently working on series of Early Readers for BraveMouse Readers the simple books will feature each of the short vowel sounds (a, e, i, o, u)Personally, I found "Big Egg" by Molly Coxe to be a fun way to introduce young children to the pleasure of reading and great way to boost early reading confidence.I look forward to adding more of Molly Coxe's books to our home library.**Sidenote: Lexile Reading Levels are helpful in many ways; but most of all, to find books that are just right for a reader's ability. A book's Lexile Measure can also be found under "Amazon Product Description" along with a short description of what a "lexile measure" represents. However, it has been my experience this detail often gets missed or glossed over, giving me yet another reason to highlight this important information in my reviews.According, to Lexile's website Lexile reading levels measure more than 35 million student's across 50 states. For this reason I have included the "Lexile Level" of many of the books I review.

Fun easy readers that motivate children to read
I purchased these books for my 5-year-old daughter who is beginning to read on her own and these Step Into Reading books are excellent as they have a high-interest factor that motivates her to read. The stories are also wonderfully illustrated in full color. This particular story has an "aww" moment, as hen finds a large egg amidst her clutch of regular hen eggs, and wonders whose egg it is, going around the farm asking the other animals if it belongs to them, until she encounters a sly fox! These Step 1 series are recommended for preschool-K - the stories are in large type and the vocabulary is easy. The stories are also in a rhyming format which makes them easy and fun to read. The full color pictures also provide contextual clues as to the word being used in the text. These early readers have raised my daughter's confidence level in reading, and she is doing so well that I'm purchasing the Step Two books (Preschool-Grade 1). I use these books in conjunction with sight words to reinforce her recognition of common vocabulary.

I would buy again. My daughter really seems to enjoy it.
I received this book today. My daughter seems to really like it. She is about to make 5 years old. She cannot read it on her own as yet, although she can sound and blend out the c-v-c words including "dog", "hen" and "cat".I would buy this book again. The story line is not boring at all. It is actually like a movie. The hen goes around to different animals to find out who the big egg belongs to. The hen finally comes to a fox and the fox claims ownership of the egg, but as he was at the table, looking like he was preparing to eat, the egg Big egg cracked and the big chicken emerged with a big "SQUAWK!". The fox was afraid. The hen eventually took home the big egg and her real eggs and she loved them all.My daughter likes this book. I would recommend it.

Great early reader with an actual story!
My son has been having a little difficulty reading. He started kindergarten this year, and he has been a little resistent to reading some of the early readers the school has sent home with him. To begin with, he has severe myopia, so it's challenging for him to see the words. But, more importantly, the early readers the school has sent home are really boring. They mainly consist of things like "Dog is Sleepy. The dog gets up. The dog sees cat." He just isn't interested. So, when we pull out the school's early readers, his response has been, "not that again!" I know he'll eventually have to read stuff that he find boring in school. But, right now, I want him to learn to love reading. Big Egg does the trick! The words are nice and big, so he doesn't get frustrated by not being able to see the words. And, there is a cute little story. He especially loves yelling, "SQUAWK" when the big egg hatches. I would love to find more early readers like Big Egg. Any ideas? :)

Ummm... two books in one????
Sooo.... I received a defective book. No ripped pages or anything like that. Instead I received two halves of two different books printed inside the Big Egg. Seriously, I’ve attached photos. The cover of the book shows Big Egg, the inside cover, however, is Cooking with the Grinch. The first half of the book is of the Grinch and then suddenly at page 13 it switches to the Big Egg 🤷🏻♀️ I have requested to have the book replaced and will update this review after I receive my new copy.Update:It’s a perfect books for beginning readers. Lots of sight words, lots of repetitive phrases. My little one really enjoyed reading this. He liked the story and he liked the pictures.

Good on Kindle too!
My 5 year old daughter has begun to read and since she sees me reading on my Kindle all the time, she wanted something on it that she could read too. Big Egg (Kindle version) came up as a suggestion on my Amazon page so for $0.88 I thought I just couldn't go wrong and was so glad I bought it! The pictures are in the Kindle "black and white" but they are clear and get the story across. The text is easy to read and the size is perfect for the beginning reader. She loves reading it on my Kindle and I love that I can quickly share a book with her any place any time.

Great for your Japanese young students....
Students can enjoy this book even if they don't know English. "Is it a cat egg?" "No." "Is it a dog egg?" "No." "Is it a fox egg?" "Yes." My students could understand these basic words and thought it was hilarious.
