The Legend Of Adventure Time?
Since this review is for a PS3 game from around 8 years ago, it might be kind of a late review, which might prevent it from being read by very many people, but considering that the Adventure Time cartoon was popular (and probably still is), and that this game seems to go for at least fairly cheap, it may be of use to more people than a "present-day" review for most other PS3 games, so I thought I'd offer my own two cents' (or rather, 22 dollars') worth. (That just may be the longest sentence I've ever written in a review!) Really, this review is kind of both mine and my bro's, since he and I took turns playing the game (on the same save file), and we share most if not all of the same sentiments. The game was very clearly "inspired" by Nintendo's old 8-Bit and 16-Bit Zelda games; in fact, that was really the reason I bought it, as neither I nor my bro ever got "into" the Adventure Time show (although we were at least somewhat familiar with at least some of the characters). It "borrows" from Zelda very heavily. Of course, the game is probably aimed more toward younger players, which probably explains why it isn't very long and doesn't have a whole lot to it, at least not from an "adult" viewpoint. As adults (and ones who aren't really Adventure Time fans), my bro and I find this to be an O.K. game, but JUST an O.K. one. It isn't "bad," but it's far from one of the best games we've ever played. In fact, we (or at least I) can't see even kids enjoying this game TOO much; while (as I stated above) it isn't very long and doesn't have a whole lot to it, it may still be too complicated and difficult for at least some child players. My bro and I finished the game once (and got the "true" ending), and we found it to be often frustrating as adults, so how much most kids would enjoy the game, we don't know...There ARE some cool things about the game, some of which I'll discuss here. Adventure Time fans will probably appreciate the graphics, which do make the game LOOK like the show, pretty much, anyway. (I personally like the graphics because they're so colorful, more than for any other reason.) I think the game uses the same voice actors as the show, which I guess is neat (fans of the show may appreciate this more than my bro and me). I've played some later cartoon-based games where the characters aren't really "voiced" at all, so it's cool that they're voiced on this game. (The dialog is often kind of funny and/or corny.) Although Jake spends most of the time in Finn's pocket on the game, you can do some pretty cool and useful things with him (though you can't do them all from the start of the game), even use him as a shield to block projectiles! After you get a particular item, Finn and Jake can split up, and sometimes it's necessary to do this to solve puzzles and get items; however, whichever one you're controlling while split up, the other one is vulnerable while he's standing around, so you have to be careful about enemies --- but it's still cool that Jake can break away from Link, I mean Finn, and do stuff (including fight enemies) on his own! Another neat thing about this game is that stuff dropped by enemies or found under bushes stays on the screen until you leave that particular screen. (Don't you hate it when items on video games disappear just before you get them?) I also like the game's overall "Zelda-ness," although it may not matter to all players! However, my bro and I encountered quite a number of rather annoying things about the game. For one, the loading times can be a bit long, or at least it seems that way to me (it's kind of funny that the screen actually says "loading time" while the game is loading stuff!). For a second one, it's VERY easy to get "caught up" on objects (such as doorways), which is annoying enough in itself, but it can also hinder you getting away from enemies and their attacks. For another one, it seems (at least to me and my bro) to be easy to throw Flambo (I think that's his name) in the wrong direction from the one you intended, at least if you throw him while you're running around. For yet another one, the Zelda-like "beat all the enemies to open the doors" puzzles in the castles don't stay "cleared" if you die and come back to the room, although the other puzzles do (or most of them, anyway). Also, the layout of the castles can be rather convoluted, and the maps aren't particularly helpful, or not always. But probably the biggest flaw with the castles is that if you die, YOU START BACK AT THE BEGINNING OF THE CASTLE! NO CHECKPOINTS. SERIOUSLY?!! It doesn't help much that after you die (anywhere), you always start with only three full hearts, no matter how many hearts you have. Those last two gameplay details are a little TOO Zelda-like, in my and my bro's opinion! Additionally, there are a few "quest" items that you have to get and give to people in order to progress the game, and my bro and I got hung up in the game for quite a while because we missed the place where you get the first item that you have to give someone; we actually had to look it up, and it turns out that it's under a particular bush that we'd never chopped or burned! That particular item is the ONLY necessary item in the whole game that you have to destroy a bush to find, and is potentially pretty easy to miss (like my bro and I missed it). But, the BIGGEST and MOST irritating thing to happen to me and my bro was the game freezing --- THREE TIMES! And two of them were in successive play sessions! Wow.I'll have to end this review sometime (and it'll be soon, trust me!), but before I do, I have to say that, although I'm not really a fan of the show, I find it kind of odd that so many characters on the game that I recognize as ones from the show (such as Marceline, Ice King, B-MO, Princess Bubblegum, etc.), don't figure into the game any more than they do, which is hardly at all. Fans of the show may be disappointed that those characters don't play bigger roles. How good this game would be for kids to play, I can't really say, but I kinda don't think most kids would be TOO crazy about it. For me and my bro, and probably for other adults, it isn't terrible but certainly isn't anywhere close to awesome. Well, if you're a fan of the show, you might like it more, I dunno. I suppose it was worth $22, anyway.

GLITCH TIME!
Read a sign in the game and GLITCH TIME! (The "x" button wouldn't work to get out of reading it.) This glitch cost me an hour of unsaved gameplay (half of that was an absurd amount of loading), obviously I'm not going to go back and repeat all that again anytime soon. In fact, this will most likely cause me to NEVER play this game again. This game could have been great, all ruined. If you do decide to buy this, just make sure you keep pressing "start", then "save & continue" every few minutes to avoid what I had to go through. Or make sure to die a lot, it will save when you die, winning is obviously not tolerated in this game.
