My mac needed restoration. Time machine asked me where I wanted to place its last save. Always being short on space, I immediately thought "let's put it on my 2 tb hard drive." And as soon as I clicked that button, I realized this will erase all my previously saved documents. I cancelled it immediately, but it was too late. There's programs online that say they'll scan your erased documents for free, but when it comes to restoration, they give you multiple options for packages to purchase, all over $100. This is great, arrives in 2 days with Prime, which limits how many documents can be erased for good. The quicker you restore, less chances of documents to be deleted for good. I can't recall any documents this did not restore. I had a bunch of old school research papers and I'm not sure if they all survived, I don't think it really matters, I have my degree now, don't think they'll be taking that away. Only problem is (and this isn't Data Recovery's fault) but I lost all the titles to my files. My iTunes automatically repopulated my songs, but I had to go through my movies and rename each one and what's left of my schoolwork, but I don't care to rename that. Not Data Recovery's fault as that's what happens to deleted files and I still got my files back. It's worth having to rename a few things to get important documents back.

I bought this to recover some photos I accidentally deleted. I consider myself to be "fairly" computer savvy, and this was confusing for me to use. You need to follow their direction and don't try to improvise or try another way because you think you know how this works. It would also be nice if it would allow you to search for the files you're trying to save first, versus just recovering all of whatever "type" of file you're looking for. So if you don't know the type of file you're looking for, you'll have a problem getting started.

As a data recovery tool this gets the job done, but note that this is not a disk repair utility. If your disk data are damaged Data Rescue will get the data off of the disk and onto something else, but it will not repair the data directories. I had a 3TB Time Machine backup disk that MacOS damaged and because of the way that Data Rescue deals with restores I had to buy another 4TB disk to get a partial recovery of the most recent backup.

works great just wont recover external hard drives and i when i read it and called the company they said it did but i think i just ordered the wrong one or it was described differently or they thought i had bought the one i really wanted. seller was awesome at issuing out refund ASAP. No problem at all.

The first one I received was defective. It broke and had no recovery files on it. I was sent a replacement (thank you). It seems fine. I will update my review after the file recovery process.

I erased my hard drive on my macbook in error and purchased Data Rescue 4 for Mac. This device worked exactly as advertised ,I was able to recover just about everything I lost.Thanks to their outstanding tech support (Gabe) it was easily done,and I learned some cool tech stuff to boot.I would recommend using an external hard drive to do the recovery it makes it a lot faster. I consider their tech support the Rolls Royce of tech support they pick up the phone very fast and you talk to a human ,they also stay on the line for as long as it takes to get you going. I am now a Very happy camper . Highly recommend using this product for data recovery.

The media could not be loaded.  I purchased this item in hopes that I can recover data from a Compact Flash Card that was accidentally Formatted. After spending an hour on my cards with no luck, this product did the unthinkable! After just one hour of failed recovery attempts this software wanted me to upgrade and purchase more recovery attempts, keep in mind I just purchased this item for $100! Serial number and everything!After 1 hour you will I guess expire or something and won't be able to do the following:*Can NOT Recover data from any External Hard Drive*Can NOT Recover data from your internal hard drive*Can NOT Recover data from high performance cards example Compact flash or Sony 32gb 40Mb/S Sd Cards*Can NOT Recover data from any Micro SD Card*Can NOT Recover data Flash DrivesIn other words worthless product
