Shoyeido's White River Incense, 80 Sticks - Shirikawa

Smell 5/5 - Awesome incense, I love it a lot. It smells very relaxing, the smoke doesn't bother me at all the way some do, and it's low smoke to begin with. It smells sophisticated and high quality. It has an warm, earthy smell with a slight sweetness. It's not overpowering but it's positive and smooth and foresty and natural in all the best ways. Length 4/5 - The smell lingers for a while after it's done burning which is nice but the sticks were surprisingly smaller than I was expecting even for sticks. I've had Japanese stick incense before, and these were like, half the size. They're only like 2 1/2 inches each and are done burning in maybe 15 mins. Price 5/5 - especially when there are other packs by Shoyeido sold on Amazon (even by the same seller) like the Moss Garden like 500 for $22 and this is 80 for $20... Overall I feel this is a 5/5. I modified my review after using these for a while because the shortness of the sticks I find to be perfect since it helps keep the smoke volume lower without sacrificing any smell. I also felt the quantity you got for the price seemed low, but this is just a higher tier incense from Shoyeido. They actually charge between 2-3x as much on their website for the same tier so this is definitely a really good price for what you get.

This brand is the only one we’ll use. This scent is such a warm and cozy smell that’s not overpowering for my sensitive nose. I can’t handle synthetic fragrance, so I’m happy to have found these. They definitely burn faster than traditional sticks, but it’s totally worth the trade for me.

My favorite Japanese brand by far. I have tried most of the Shoyeido line and this is up in the top 3 for me. It's sweet and complex- if you like nag champa you will appreciate this scent. It's clean burning - nothing extra to pollute your environment. Many comments on the size. Yes, the sticks are small however - just a single stick will give the same affect as a traditional high quality incense stick. The aroma is intense despite the size. As far as value goes, this is one of the pricey brands but if you are an incense lover you will appreciate spending a few more dollars for the quality and complexity of the product. Yes, I will buy this again. I will probably keep it in my rotation.

My favorite Shoyeido incense, but is too expensive. That's why I removed one star. You only get 80 sticks, but they burn fast. In my own experience I would say bye from a seller other than the company. For some reason when I buy directly from the company, they are hit and miss of receiving moldy incense. But overall this White River is actually very unique not too sweet smell. And I would buy this one again.

Amazing incense. Smells sweet and almost…fruity. It’s a short incense that burns for 15-20 minutes, but leaves the nice smell for the whole room for hours.

Has a beautifully subtle, refined scent that creates a peaceful ambiance. The fragrance is earthy with just a hint of sweetness, making it perfect for first thing in the morning. What stands out to me is how cleanly the sticks burn, with minimal smoke and no harsh after-smell. It doesn’t overpower the room but instead lingers softly, adding a calming layer to the space. It's a sophisticated incense that feels natural and grounding.

Since Liquid Blue discontinued the greatest smelling incense of all time, Dragon Catcher, I've been looking for something sweet, and smoky, and just right to replace it. Nag Champa comes close, but this Shoyeido White River is even better. The incense sticks are short but burn for about 20 minutes each and fill the room with as much smell as longer sticks but with less smoke. The box even comes with a little ceramic disc to hold the incense while it burns. I set everything up in an Altoids tin and it catches all the ash and gives me a fireproof container to house everything. The incense can be lit from either end but whatever end is stuck into the ceramic disc won't burn all the way down, which is a nice touch for fire safety.
