Gerber Gear Gerber Moment Fixed Blade Knife, Gut Hook [31-002200]

Fantastic value. I wont even say "for the money". I like the size and thickness of the blades. These knives fit comfortably in either hand and have a non-slip feel. I am buying as a 2nd set for hunts that go extra well and skinning more than 1 animal will be done. These knives are already sharp enough to skin a deer out of the package and I believe that they will be able to process more than one animal before sharpening will be necessary. Having skinned quite a few deer using a variety of brands and types of knives, I can tell you this deal is hard to beat. Included is a photo of my favorite skinning knife next to the Gerber. The weight and balance are very similar to the custom knife. Oh yeah, let me address the sheath since so many reviews have trashed it so badly. The sheath is adequate and seems to be made well enough. I find absolutely nothing wrong with the sheath whatsover. If one chooses to use it, which I doubt many will, it will hang from their belt exactly as designed. I will likely use it only for storage and to protect the blade during transport.

This is a really nice set for the money. The blades feel solid but aren't overly heavy. I like blades you can beat on and baton with, or use like a hatchet or machete, but for its purpose I like this lightweight kit far more. If you are going to have to carry it all day, the extra weight of thicker blades is likely to become burdensome. I already owned the Smith & Wesson SWCAMP Campfire Set with Cleaver, Guthook and Campknife, and it may still prove more useful for larger game, but for most of what I am likely to need them for this set is the better and more practical choice. These knives came in sharp enough to shave with and the blades appear to be made with precision. If I were hunting or dressing out anything deer sized or smaller, this set would be my choice. The gut zipper on the larger knife is in my opinion an absolute necessity for small game and makes the job so much easier. I'm not particularly fond of the sheath, but it does the job and at this price I have no complaints. This set has given me a renewed interest in Gerber knives in general and I am eager to try out their higher end made in USA offerings, some of which are also very reasonably priced!

Excellent blades. Perfect for dressing and processing deer. Rugged yet surprisingly light weight. Comfortable sheath setup. Only con is that while the sheath is comfortable, returning the small blade to the sheath is tricky, as the snap loop tends to fall into the sheath. Take extra care when sheathing the smaller knife as not to cut the loop or your finger.Very easy to clean.Positive, non-slip grips.Gut hook knife is strong enough to split sternum and pelvis.Small knife makes detail work (like removing backstraps or separating quarters) neat and quick.

I bought there for a friend for his birthday. The nylon sheath is well made and fits on a belt perfectly. The nylon snaps for the knife handles ensures you'll never have to worry about them falling out when moving unless you just forget to secure them. Blades come sharp and ready to go. Perfect gift for any hunter and a necessity for regular field equipment.

I can’t find anything I would change about these knives. I LOVE how easily these knives take an edge.I decided to use the smaller knife to dress some doves. I cut the breast meat out to make skewers. The place provided for your index finger between the handle and blade really made using this knife for that task a joy. I was able to preserve so much of the meat and kept showing others how clean I was able to get all of the breast meat out with it.I’ve also handled the skinning knife extensively and find the contour of the handle material and the texture to be confidence inspiring. I don’t fear this knife slipping when wet. The holster is nice for keeping them together.

Gutted the first deer with this knife this morning, worked excellent. Very sharp, gut hook very sharp. Good sturdy knife. Also used the Gerber saw for cutting the breast bone, highly recommended as well. You won't go wrong with this knife. Would shave you right out of the package. UPDATE - 2 more deer gutted, knife will still shave. Very impressed. Also used the Gerber saw on both, works excellent. Great combination.
