Pivotal for Aspiring ERISA Lawyers
Huge fan of the Nutshell Series, ever since law school. I consider this book (even my outdated copy) the premier introduction to Employee Benefits law, as well as a terrific reference. I just wish it had a nicer cover (or less of a stigma), because, honestly, I want to refer to it more often. Also, a lot of Employee Benefit books are really either a)sales books from plan administrators, b)ERISA litigation books, or c)meant for HR professionals, not lawyers. This is the only book I have found that covers (generally) qualified plans, nonqualifed plans, litigation, and transactional work.

Great Book on an Important Subject
I would love a flow chart or family-tree-like diagram at the start of the book to help with this complicated subject but I thought the textual coverage was wonderful and it got me going in no time when I needed to learn this subject.

Outdated/does not reflect current rules
book was severely outdated; read the publication date/check to verify new changes in laws before you order. wasn’t helpful at all.

Good supplement for learning the basic law and history of ERISA
This was one of two supplements I used with my Employee Benefits course. I highly recommend it for someone who is new to this area of law and wants a simple and easy-to-read supplement that will give you a basic understanding of ERISA, health care plans, and deferred compensation plans. Although not as specific as a textbook it is still a good, cheap supplement.

Wrong Edition Recieved
So far I've been impressed with the book, but if you order check the edition date when you receive it. I ordered the 2008 edition and received the 2003 edition.

Great pension info/no healthcare info
Very good for pension plans, almost nothing on welfare plans. Do not buy if you want information on medical. Buy if you need info on pensions.

Helpful overview of a complicated topic
Employee benefits is a really complicated area of the law. As always, In a Nutshell did a good job of breaking it down and making the topic seem far less complex. I always recommend this series to law student friends of mine. I used this in law school and think that it was very helpful

great nutshell!
I just started working in this field, and this book is a great summary. This area of law is so complicated that it's nice to have a simple overview available.
