Must be updated to work. Awesome code reader for the DIY mechanic
UPDATE: the unit won't work if you don't do updates. It works fine once you do updates.I am getting various transmission codes. I've researched the forums and YouTube. This allowed me to look at the specific codes (P0843, P0877, P0751, etc) and the components. I was able to look at all my shift solenoids, Pressure switch's, and trans temperature at the same time. It was 15F outside and I was able to see the trans temperature read 80F, and if I cleared the code and shifted it went to limp mode, and then the transmission read -40F. I'm replacing the Pressure Switch assembly (ALLISON TRANSMISSION 29546972 PRESSURE SWITCH ASSEMBLY 5-SPEED & 6-SPEED 01-18) and expect the temperature to read correctly. The gauge reads correctly today after clearing the code.I bought this for my Chevy 2500 with a Duramax engine to read a code. Basic code readers were giving me a generic code (P0700) and this was snow to give me more specific detail (shift solenoid 2) as well as the ability to move monitor data. Similar to my CTS Edge scanner it can show balance rates, and SOOOO much more. It was worth the $150 for figuring out my error code so I could research potential solutions (low fluid, frayed wires, bad harness) instead of constantly having a no shift problem. Some say the software stops working in a few months, but after two days of playing with it I'm happy for the one time.It automatically detects your vin. Also, it stores stuff on servers in China (if you couldn't tell by the price) so if you want USA made this isn't it. If you shop at Walmart, Target, or Auto Zone you'll be right at home. This is not a programmer. It won't turn off features you don't like. It could help diagnose a misfire, monitor transmission or engine coolant temps, tell you the flow plug status, etc.

Very helpful for my old ‘03 VW Jetta and smog test
I have a ‘03 Jetta that is a surprisingly great little car considering it’s age. Only problem in the last 5 years is some EVAP stuff which is causing me to fail CA smog check. I really got this scan tool to scan for emissions readiness so I can see which monitors are not ready without running to my auto shop every few days. Yesterday I got my check engine light though, and I used this tool to scan DTC. It told me exactly what my mechanic had suspected last time I was at the shop for the purge valve repair, “very small leak in evap system”. So I knew my mechanic was correct and honest, I knew what was wrong with the car, and I knew I needed to get the smoke test next to find the leak all thanks to this scan tool. It’s AMAZING. Very easy to use, lots of features, and really will save time and money. I am a blonde female so I am immediately pegged by some mechanics as stupid and easy to trick. With this scan tool, google, and my Chilton manual, I can speak to them in their own language. When you get this scan tool just charge it up; CHARGER IS IN THE CARRY CASE! Then connect to your WiFi and update! Then plug it into your port in your car and turn on the ignition. You can get a full health report. My VIN was not auto-detected, that was my only disappointment but no big deal. I was able to clear an old airbag code that was due to my battery dying, and then I found my leak. Everything else checked out.wish I got this sooner, actually, it is sooo informative. You can leave it plugged in when you drive and get live data too. I’ll do that when my car is back from the mechanic. I’ll update my review if anything changes, but I highly recommend you try this scan tool.Update: one month later I finally got my monitors ready and the photo shows the live data report for my car. Took it for smog and passed. Those monitors are a main component of smog check. So if they all pass, you will probably pass (they still have to inspect, and check tailpipe output, but monitors are main thing). In my state it’s legal for them to charge you over and over even if you fail. So knowing you will pass or fail ahead of time really adds up savings. My mechanic charges twice EVEN IF THEY do the repairs. Sux but never again!

Great Product
Works great for clearing engine codes and does all it advertised. Took only about 30 min to set up after connecting to wifi. Only thing that could make this better would be able to clear codes such as o2 sensors if not an active fault. Solid 9/10
