The Ghost and Mr. Chicken

One of the best quality movies we've seen. Don Knotts shines in this film, and it's all good clean fun. It illustrated how good a movie can be without having to resort to the exploitation of sex and violence... always a cheap attraction designed to sell a poorly done movie. THIS movies is NOT that way ... it is WELL worth your time to watch it, and great entertainment!

What's not to love about Don Knotts??? One of his classic 'twitchy' type roles. I'm 60 years old but enjoy him with the enthusiasm of my youth. Great story that might have the family enjoying good clean humor, especially if viewing it with kids around Halloween. A bit of odd off camera humor as well with one man calling outloud to 'Luther' (D. Knotts) & others during crowd scenes & gatherings. You honestly won't regret your investment of time & a few bucks to rent, but go ahead & buy it instead.

This movie is probably one of my favorites. It's funny without being too corny (but that's the talent of Don Knotts), has some very subtle adult humor ("...of all your sweaters, that's my favorite"), and yet is still a great family movie. My kids (7 and 9) love this movie and ask to watch it often! I will say that my 7 year old found the "haunted house" a bit creepy, so it's something to keep in mind with the younger kids.This, I believe, is Don Knotts's first movie after leaving his role of Deputy Fife on "The Andy Griffith Show," so keep an eye out for many supporting characters from that show in supporting roles in this movie. This was obviously a time when friendships were made and loyalty existed. You can just imagine how casting went... Casting Director: "We've got a part for a ________." Don Knotts: "I know someone who'd be perfect for that. I worked with __________, and they played that part to a tee! We should see if they are available." And you know, they were perfect for the part because this movie is just utterly fantastic.If you want to enjoy a movie without having to worry about covering your kids' ears every few minutes, or worry how they will talk about it at school, or just plain enjoy some fun times together, then this is a great choice. While owning a copy lets you enjoy it anytime, you will want to add this to your list of halloween movies to watch, for sure.

I first watched this movie on TV back when I was about 12 years old. The only things I remember about the movie are Don Knotts falling down the coal shoot and the portrait of Mrs. Simmons with the gardener's shears in her throat with her blood squirting out. I also remember that I really liked the movie even then. What I like about most about the movie was that I could really relate to Luther Heggs having sort of a inferior complex myself and I do have quite an imagination. But the ending was a real surprise! I also watched it several times and each time I noticed something different and suspenseful. Don Knotts did an outstanding job as his role of Luther Heggs. It was just great all the way around. I feel this was his greatest movie!

In fact, Don Knotts is the star of the show as a small town little man who gets a shot at the big time by ghost hunting and crime solving.Is it campy and corny? Yes, gloriously so! With all the harmful filth generated today by known criminal offenders, a little bit of 60s Camp nostalgia offers a brief respite from the doomed and fracturing society today’s hypereality has beset us with. Thanks Don!!!

If your looking for super sharp emoting...this isn't it. Don't Knotts is just super funny in this fun flik. Great clean fun family film with a legendary comedic actor. You'll recognized some old 'Andy Griffith' regulars in here too. Like down home week for actors.

Don Knotts at his bumbling, shaking, nervous best! If you like him & you've somehow managed to miss this gem, try to see it or better yet... buy it!!! (Mystery surrounds a creepy mansion & an unsolved murder from years gone by).Luther Heggs wants to be a reporter & what better way to get the big scoop than to stay overnight in the mansion on the anniversary of the murders. Things creep him out before he even gets settled in & from there on, it's shadows & things that go bump in the night causing "Luther" to be his wide-eyed, freaked out self. I won't say anymore. It's up to you to find out what happens & how Knotts' character survives the night to solve the mysteries that follow.

This is a classic Don Knotts film. Just like the Andy Griffith Show, this movie is still funny after all of the years it has been around. It's a good movie to have around when you need to laugh. I hope you enjoy watching it.

This is a fun movie to watch. Don Knotts ( The Andy Griffith Show ) plays the wannabe reporter Luther Heggs, who spends one night in a " Haunted House." His article in the local paper makes headlines and attracts a group of so-called spiritualists trying to make contact with the deceased inside the house. Also joining Knotts is Joan Staley, who Heggs, has a serious crush on. A good clean and fun Halloween movie that the whole family can enjoy.
