Whats the difference between the male and female edges

Male edges have pegs and are made to attach to a floor with exposed loops. Female edges have loops and are made to attach to a floor with exposed pegs.

So I would need a male and female edge to make a right and left corner?

If you are doing a free standing pad with edges all the way around you would need 1/2 male and 1/2 female edges, then 2 male corners and 2 female corners
