Any kind of oyster. That said, for really large oysters, get an oyster knife with a longer blade.

Q: Why was a cheap one imitation knock off that was made in China shipped when i placed an order?

I am not sure why it came from China (pricing probably) Ii am sure mine came from the U.S. It's basically plastic with a curved blade. Mine works great and if yours doesn't you can try to return it.

Q: What material is the handle made from? A hard plastic or is it more of a soft rubber texture?

Hard plastic. It's a sturdy piece. Thick strong metal blade which I believe runs through the length of handle. There's no wiggle or looseness in the tool.
