Q: What are they trying to say with this?: "Water resistant to 99 feet (30 M): withstands rain and splashes of water, but not showering or submersion"

I bought this watch in September of 2013 and have worn it in the shower, in the bathtub and while swimming in pools and lakes. During that time I have had no problems with it. The instructions that come with the watch say that it is water resistant up the 30 meters below the surface but that it should not be used for diving. What I've heard is that once you change the battery on a watch, it isn't water resistant anymore, but up until you do that, it should be fine.

Q: Is this the version with the red second hand? The user pictures show the hand as being olive, but the official picture shows it as being red.

Depends on the style you choose. I have the grey model with the orange/grey strap and the second hand is the same color as the hour and minutes hands...chrome.

Q: can you install regular watch band on this watch? (can those small bars be removed to allow installation of a regular watch band)

Yes, you can take the bars off and use a regular band
