Both assemblies have a fastener to disassemble to install in the hole in the door. Upper assembly (non-spring) can be installed in 180-degree directions depending on the style of the upper rail. Non-spring assembly is installed in the bottom rail. Installed correctly, the lower assembly will stay in the rail when door is open/closed.

How do you install these?

Remove the old one installed new using same hole comes with a the mounting Hardware

What is the diameter of the piece that goes through the glass?

The retaining screw is 4mm or 5/32 inch diameter.
