What do you use your tablet for? If this works for your use cases, it's a great deal!
I only use a tablet to read ebooks and to look up books on Kindle or Libby, the library app. Every once in a while I'll look up something online, check an email while traveling, or listen to an audio book with the tablet. Those are my only use cases. I do not play games on it and I am not using productivity apps on this (Word, Excel, Outlook) I was going to buy another Apple tablet, but they are so expensive that I decided to just get a Kindle. I'm so glad I did. I bought the version with no ads, a must, and I made sure the Kindle I bought had enough storage space. If you check online prices regularly, you'll see that certain colors go on sale. So be felxible on the tablet color, bide your time, and you can get a deep discount. Don't expect a large selection of apps for the Kindle. If you want to play games or download lots of apps, you'll need an some other Android based tablet or an Ipad or...a friend to jailbreak your Kindle. But if you want this as an e-reader and a device to take on trips, you'll be very happy with this Kindle. After you get your low-priced tablet, be sure to buy a nice cover that protects the edges and corners and install the clear protective glass shield. This will up your cost over $50, but you do still have to protect this device! Set up the find my tablet function, too, if you travel with it. You can call Amazon if you need help setting up the tablet. Buying this for an older relative is not a good option if your loved one cannot learn the swipe screens anymore or have only used Windows or the iOS. I bought one for an older friend and had to take it back. Learning a Kindle system completely frusterated her.

Great deal over all
I love and I'm very happy with my tablet. I mainly use it for reading. It has a lot of the apps I use, so that's nice. It has the dictionary app in the store that I use on my phone and now on my tablet. I was happy about that. It was not hard to set up. Battery life is great. Speed of tablet is awesome. I like how you can put up any image for the background. Screen is vibrant. It functions just like my android phone but bigger. I love the screen size. Over all great experience so far!

It's book sized!!!
What I love most about this version of the Kindle Fire is that it is book sized!!! I plan to use my Kindle Fire to read mostly, and I love how the overall size is that of a typical book. The screen quality is amazing and it's super easy to navigate through all the apps and settings. The download speed is fast and there is a nice selection of apps. I did however discover that there is no Goodreads app in the appstore for some reason. However, the Kindle App is now connected to Goodreads by default now which is a new discovery on my part. All in all, I'm very happy with my purchase!!!

I love my Fire Tablets but they still can't do the Google Play Store or allow Haystack news.
For their lacking RAM these hold terrific value and one of the best build qualities. Their batteries last a long time. I have had two Fire 8.9" HDX tablets and one still here that still holds its charge. It was expensive for its time but had everything except a micro SD card slot. I have also had the Fire HD 8, and two Fire HD8+. I had a Fire 10 and rarely used it about five years ago. I now have the Fire 11 Max and keyboard case for it, and still have a Fire HD 8+ 2022 version.I also have three Surface tablets, a Go 2 m3, a Surface Pro 7+ LTE, and a Surface Pro 9 i7/1TBSSD/16GB RAM. As well two S9 FE Samsung Galaxy Tablets one 5g model. No I do not do Apple anything. They are fine for less techie types. NO iPads, no iPhones, certainly no Macs without touch screens or SD card storage.I do not want to reconfigure my OS to get the Playstore on my Fire tablets because they then lose updates or updates revert them or brick them. I can change the OS version but why? I can spend a tiny bit more for Android tablets and have it all.I took off one star because they still do not allow the Google play store nor allow Haystack News which I have on my S9 Android tablets, my Pixel 9 phones and my windows computers and tablets. I do have Haystack News on all our Fire TVs but can't download it or get it from the Amazon store. If their 8" tablets are 1280 x 800 (189 ppi) not full HD like the Fire Max 11 I have.I believe if the 8" had full HD at least 1920X1080, 6GB RAM and 32 GB storage with their micro SD card slot, and the Play store and Haystack news I would ditch all my other tablets except my Surface devices and buy HD8 current models..Now that would be a winner. Do that (Full HD, 6GB RAM, Make a deal with the Google play store, we are not "idjits." Amazon's Tablet UI is Android produced by Google! But with Amazon held back by Amazon.I have seen Chinese tablets with those specs for ~$100.00 - $$125. If Amazon did that with their Fire tablets, especially the 8", I believe they would take over the market. And I love the kid proof sponge cases with the built in stand. When I fall asleep reading and wake up on top of them, none have broken or had any issues. I may end up buying a replacement battery for my old 8.9" HDX, open it up and change the battery. It is a royal PITA with a good chance of screen breakage, or getting a defective battery.

Bought it for my 70-year old Mom
I bought this tablet for my elderly mother. It replaced her 5-year old Fire 8 Tablet, which still worked fine. This newest version is nearly identical to the old model except for more RAM and a faster processor chip. She's very happy with it and there was no learning curve because it operates just like the old tablet. I chose the Fire 8 instead of the 10 inch tablet because it's lighter and easier to hold for my mother's frail hands. She mainly uses the tablet to browse the internet and video streaming. Battery life is excellent.I would recommend getting an anti-glare screen protector and a faster charger (both of which you can get on Amazon). The charger that comes with the tablet is pretty slow.I like that Amazon gives you a trade-in discount when you mail in your old Fire tablet. That was a big reason why I chose to get another one.
