Life changing
I don’t easily say “life changing” for anything since I set my bar very high for myself but this book is magic. Read it, trust it and enjoy building a new creative self.

Brilliant classic that's about creativity and so much more!
I had been dissuaded from buying this book by some friends who told me "you don't need this!, It's for people whose creativity is blocked".In the end I got the book for two reasons: 1 It is a classic and being in the field of coaching myself, I thought I should read it regardless and 2 I generally like making up my own mind! The book is fantastic for anyone wanting to create something - from a painting, piece of music or free time.Sure the book is about a process to free up creativity but in my view Julia has approached creativity in it's broadest term. Her references are more for people in the creative arts, that is true. That said, anyone who undertakes the process she describes will benefit from it.The exercises and the daily practice of journaling is lovely and I, like everyone else who has worked with this book judged by the reviews here, discovered in me something new opening up: a way forward for my inner artists on projects I was stuck on. What is needed of course is persistence and discipline to keep with it. For me, this meant I went on a crush course, disregarded Julia's advice for a week-based process and accelerated the pace so that I did the whole book in days.I was glad I did. I have in fact given five copies of this book to colleagues and friends whom I felt would benefit from this way of being. This is a very worthwhile book to keep on your shelves and never give away. I know I will revisit mine for myself and also with my clients.

This isn't just a book. it's a course!!
this book really encourages you to do the work of looking into your own mind and challenges you in ways that are integral to your development as a person, not just an artist. I find that it has a lot more to do with spiritual alignment instead just being a book that gives you scientific facts, data and quick hacks. You really have to do the work. This is a book that anyone can use.

THE book
Ever felt "blocked", "stuck", "lost" ?This book will change your life. If you are a person who likes to think of themselves as "creative" but doesn't know how, in what capacity, or perhaps doesn't even actively engage in anything creative outside of your imagination - this book will give you tools to do it. Unlike other self-help books, the tasks aren't vague; they're solid, specific, and weekly. The course lasts for 12 weeks - it is designed to be intensive so should be carried out according to the time schedule. You can do it independently or in a group (I would recommend independently). The most important thing is to be open minded with it - I have been raised a strong atheist and there are many, like myself, who struggled with some of the more spiritual concepts. As long as you keep an open mind, and don't fall into a trap of believing you are being converted (this is another form of blocking yourself) this book will come to be invaluable to you.Even if it's to bring a little light and happiness to your life, whilst engaging in some fun, creative tasks, try it out. There's a good reason why it's an international bestseller and it's entirely justified.

Might be for you.
The book assumes you’re some wounded bird—blocked, lost, and in need of spirituality to be saved. But that just wasn’t where I was when I picked it up. I was already creatively productive and living the artist’s life. I gave it a go because everyone raves about it, but it didn’t speak to me. I’m sure it’s helpful for a certain kind of person—just not for me.
