I have mixed feelings about this box. It being carved makes it special. But that also means it can look a lot different from the photos. For example, the main flower on mine has only nine petals, with one partially missing. The one in the photo has many more petals and is more finely carved and finished in general, as well.It came covered in a thick powder that I had to wash off, which wasn't good for the wood. I'm unsure what that was--perhaps the finish wasn't allowed to cure properly.The red lining isn't the nicest quality fabric. I tried to remove as much as I could with scissors and pliers. In my box, the fabric was affixed around the edges, so those bits didn't come out. The interior top color was fine, but I had to stain the bottom interior since the wood was lighter under the fabric.The interior dimensions are a bit under 3" x 3" x slightly over 1 1/2" high.My star rating reflects the unusual powder/finish failure (?) and inferior carving to what is pictured. I still like the box, but it's a lot more roughly made than expected.Edit: I ended up throwing the box away a couple months later, because the powdery substance didn't seem fully gone. I've updated the star rating accordingly. It was disappointing, but hopefully was just something that went wrong with the box I had, since they're handmade.

This box came wrapped in a plastic bag that appeared to be stained with whatever the wood was coated with. The color is much darker than what is shown in the product photos. It has a moldy smell and was coated with a white film that I had to wipe off. The box is difficult to open and does not close all the way. The inside was filled with dust and apparent mold, which I also had to clean off. The red lining is stained. It’s too embarrassing to give as a gift.

I gave these boxes to my friends in Al Anon to use as a “God Box”. The box is perfect for small slips of paper or trinkets. One box was not closing, but my friend just sanded down the inside to make it work. They are intricate and pretty.
