Essential and compact
This book has no frills, after all it is intended to be an exam prep book rather than a book of instruction. However, what it does is give you guiding points for beginning to lower intermediate levels of guitar achievement. If you can flawlessly perform the studies in the book at any given level, you'll know where you are. If your performance is less than flawless, you know what sort of things to concentrate on.I like that the book contains material for both classical (more generally finger-style) and plectrum guitar. The classical guitar material is a little more extensive, but there is enough here no matter which style you are studying. The grading pulls no punches. Grade 5 is surprisingly demanding in asking the student to play in five sharps. Even grade 3 can challenge the advanced beginner. This book is not something to look at and toy with casually. This is all about serious musicianship, which I applaud wholeheartedly. Five stars. Very valuable in many ways.
