Everything about this item seems to me very high quality: the feel, the appearance and the nice chunky weight of the compass, the accuracy of the magnetic pointer and the quality of the protective leather bag. I don't know if I'll use the sun dial part much, but the instructions that came with it are very well written (and not some poor translation to English from somewhere else). It's more expensive than some similar items, but I'm glad I paid to get a compass made by Neovivid (seems a good make) and it was posted within the UK with Amazon Prime (it arrived in two days and was very well protected by its packaging). Wasn't sure what to expect but it feels really solid and nicely made with quality materials and finish. The carrying pouch is lovely and I like the circular design of it compared to many others that have a more bulky looking square pouch. Gave as a gift to my sister who is really into hiking and she seemed v happy. It's a little larger and heavier than I expected and definitely more of a novelty / prop, than a indispensable piece of hiking kit, but still a really pleasing accessory to instil the spirit of adventure and act as a backup if all the digital kit fails!

I paid £30 for this compass and this review reflects that price. It is not a precision instrument and I would not use it for ocean navigation but it is an excellent reproduction/retro functional compass. It is solid, very well made and highly tactile. The compass needle is a bit twitchy on the move but it only vibrates between a few degrees of arc. It's fine if you just want to know which way north is. The sun dial is a nice, if impractical addition. It makes a very nice quirky but useful gift.

I purchased this as a gift for my boyfriend who is a keen hiker. The quality is fantastic and it's got a good weight to it, the brass colour is beautiful. I would definitely recommend this if you are looking for a gift or even to treat yourself
