Hi, I don' want hanging ceiling just dampen the noise from upstairs apartment. Can I secure them straight to the sheetrock covered ceiling?

What you are experiencing from the apartment above is structure borne noise. No ceiling tile will help with that. We would recommend you talk to an acoustical consultant.

No. It’s like a crushed cardboard material. Like office ceiling tiles.
