Q: What contaminants can be removed by the system?

Sediment are particulates, physical things not in solution. Like sand, dirt, rust particles... things like that.

Q: Will the system drop water pressure?

I don't. You will start dropping pressure as the filter clogs up. If that happens just have it clean itself more frequently. My filter doesn't backflush all that well so every few weeks I go down and give it some good taps while it's backflushing to really get it cleaned out

Q: Does this filter get rid of the smell of sulfer

NO. It's a sediment filter. It will remove sediment from your water.
