Invincible: The Best Yet?
I bought the first trade paperback of Invincible a few months ago after a friend recommended it, and while it starts slow, it never disappoints. Fans of Kirkman (The Walking Dead, Ultimate X-Men, Marvel Zombies) should know what to expect, with solid, fresh dialogue supporting a plot that never seems to become stale or predictable.Volume 12, "Still Standing", is no exception. Fans of any long-running series will relate when I say that a world and its characters become more and more important to you as you invest your time in them, and you start to really care how their lives play out through the issues. As such, the massive shake-ups and turmoil in this TPB are incredibly engaging, and my 'quick dip into' soon became 'read the whole thing'.I won't give any of the plot away, but I have no doubt in my mind that anybody who has even an inkling of interest in comic books would enjoy this, and the rest of the series. To give this volume proper weight, however, the previous volumes are essential reading (and just as enjoyable!).

Invincible rules!
Invincible is simply one of the very top super-hero titles around. It's slickly written by Robert Kirkman who manages a light deft touch even when going into some dark places. The artwork by Ryan Ottley is clear and stylish, managing to edge just onto the realistic side of cartoony. Together it's a winning combination.Just to briefly explain the setup to Invincible newbies, Mark is the son of the world's most powerful hero who turns out to be an alien villain. As both himself and Invincible, Mark has a lot of growing up to do and a lot to deal with in terms of new enemies, new friends, and complicated relationships and it's all set in the Image Universe which allows for some fun teamups. And this comic is fun in a big way. That said, this 12th trade paperback really darkens down the tone and it's the grimest installment so far. It begins with about 20 hostile Invincibles from alternate worlds invading Earth, one of whom specifically wants to kill Mark's girlfriend. In the aftermath of this disaster, matters get even worse with the arrival of Conquest, possibly the strongest of Mark's father's people. Now while I'm not one for issue-long super-hero fights -and this lasts for nearly three of them!- this is done really well and it's the darkest most violent and horrific installment of Invincible yet.If you haven't tried Invincible before, don't start with this. Go and get the first one. If you have then you'll hardly be surprised to learn that this comes highly recommended.

volume to volume
Same as the previous books, just when you're getting bored, the page turns and you're back on the edge of your seat.

Imbalanced Entry in a Fantastic Series
I've been following this series since the start. It's the story of a young superhero coming into his own. Learning what it takes to be a hero and how to handle a chaotic lifestyle (which includes girls and super team-ups). He's come through alot but now things start getting even harder for young Invincible. This series has been consistently entertaining. Matching fun and serious characterisation with strong plotting and art. However this is the first time I've felt like the series has slipped up.In the first part of the book the planet Earth comes under attack by Evil Invincibles. While this isn't the weak point in and of itself, the story that contains it feels extremely disjointed and rushed. Fortunately it only lasts about a fraction of the book but, considering the rest handles the fallout, this could have been more expertly done.I'd without question gives the series a 5* but for this blip of a book - 3*

A bucket-load of Invincibles invade the planet
In this volume, Angstrom Levy unleashes Invincibles from other dimensions on our Earth and the resident super-heroes have to fight them off. All the Image crowd appear. A Viltrumite called Conquest also takes Mark on – really at the worst possible time.A very bloody episode with a few interesting twists. This volume has a lot of fighting; it's still engaging and the artwork continues to be good enough to make it work – maybe a bit less colour? Now on to Volume 13.
