Q: Has anyone else found that the kit was missing numerous parts? Like an entire parts tree?

No, all the parts were there in mine. What parts were missing? Was the box sealed? Mine was shrink wrapped.

Q: How many approximate hours to build for a novice?

For an absolute novice? I would estimate 40 hours. It is a more complex kit, but the instructions are straight-forward. Since the model is molded in multiple colors, it is easy to build the model without painting and still get a very nice-looking result. That makes it easy, because otherwise you have to be very careful what *not* to paint so that the assemblies will glue together. There is a lot of part clean-up needed before assembly, because the molds date back to the late 50s. It is a fun build.

Q: Would this be suitable as a gift to an adult to be displayed on a desk?
