It's a very tight fit so there will be no leaking. Push it against a hard surface like a mirror or door jam might help.

How do you use the rubber insert?

The easiest way is to put the rubber insert into the neck of the tube and then insert the wand and screw it down. Much easier than trying to force the rubber insert with your fingers!
