I love the Dummies books
We're expecting our first in a few months and I have no prior experience with babies. My wife laughed at me when I told her I was going to look for a Dummies book on the subject, but low and behold - it exists. This is not my first Dummies book and it holds up with the rest (seriously, if text books were written this way, I probably would have enjoyed school much more) The authors take a very approachable and laid back approach to covering what to do with a baby. They seem to be pretty non-biased, presenting multiple sides to issues or decisions (when there are multiple sides). In particular, the best part are the *lists*. There are checklists for everything: nursery, hospital bag, baby bag, travel... They make it very easy. Even my wife now agrees.

Dummies books rock
The "for Dummies" books are written in a great format. You can read them cover to cover or start at any given point without feeling lost. I totally disagree with "Sabrina's mom"'s comment. Although our baby hasn't come yet I have 4 younger siblings and my mom used the sleep training methods promoted in this book on all of us and they work very well. It's hard to listen to babies cry themselves to sleep but it really is the only way they will learn to get themselves to sleep and the only way you will ever get some sleep. Discipline is just one of those things that you have to do as a parent. Also, the milestones are great so you know when to expect your baby to start crawling so you can plan how to babyproof your house. This book has wonderful, practical advice that I think every parent should read!

Can certainly recommend it to the parents having their first child
This book is very informative. I only wish I had bought it before the baby was born because the first few chapters of the book deals with exactly that. Some of the chapters cover the babies activities based on how many months old he is. So you don't need to read the entire book at once and can wait until your baby reaches a certain age (i.e. 2 months or 3 months and then you can read those chapters). Has a dedicated chapter for Dad.Most importantly, the book mentions what you can expect as your baby grows older. For example, it was very useful to know that the baby was going to be increasingly fussy and screaming as he grew older into his 2nd, 3rd months which helped us stay more patient and relaxed.

Best Baby Book
I’ve read a bunch of articles, subscribe to mailing lists, and I’ve purchased and read a bunch of baby books, including some that are well-rated… BUT I found this to be the most useful of any baby books I purchased. Honestly, if you’re looking for information for AFTER the baby is born, purchase this book, as well as a good medical encyclopedia, like The PDR Family Guide, and you’ll be good to go!

Thought there would be more to it
Very brief guide to the basics. It's like the old Cliff notes guides to kids. Not enough to it. Just a starting point.

A good resource.
The media could not be loaded. I mean. It’s a lot. A lot of information. Good information for first-timers like myself. But you forget a lot and have to re-read. But it’s a good resource. Like an encyclopedia. But I’ve found the best resources are friends, family & nurses have already “been there. done that”
