This USB 3.0 is very user friendly and simple to navigate!
This is a must for us who repair computers who just want to clones someone drive to a new drive. Easy No PC needed. You can connect it to a PC via USB 3.0. The file transfer during cloning is slow due to the large number of files that have to be moved from one hard drive to another! The build quality is nice. High impact plastic. Inserting HD is super easy and work for both tower hard drives or notebook drives. I did 3 clones in a row without errors. Laptop drive booted up each time easily. Also works with SSD hard drives which tranfer rates are their quickest! You have indicator lights on the unit to tell you the progress of the tranfering of files. The USB 3.0 from computer has the fastest transfer times. This unit allows for hard drives to remain very cool during this operation due to its open air design. Everything about this unit is nice. I was not able to find any cons during my testing of the unit. I am very impressed with this product.

It works, but not without specific caveats.
This product works very well as a hard drive backup. I tried cloning a disk & it didn't work right. I don't know what happened, but the copy screwed up & I lost the data. I was very frustrated. However, I did purchase cloning software (easeUS todo backup) & I was able to reformat the hard drive. Additionally, I was able to find data on my friend's old hard drive that he was afraid was gone, so overall, this product has worked well, & I could account the 1 accident as a user error. The number 1 rule is that before you clone or upgrade any computer, is that you backup your data. This sounds like a no brainer, but I hear about people who forget or think that the data will always be on the hard drive. I also want to note that doing a clone using the standalone feature sucks. It is extremely slow & after 36 hours, it was stuck on 25% still. I was only copying a terabyte hard drive, so it wasn't like I was trying to transfer 10 terabytes of data. After I connected the bay to my 3.0 usb computer slot & used the cloning software, the cloning speed was infinitely faster. Once I got to know my way around this item, I can state that it does work, but there are a number of areas for improvement. However, for the price, I can't complain. I will also update this in the future if I experience any additional issues with data loss, but again, this first experience could have been user error & I have not had any further issues.

Easy way to clone serial disks
This docking station can provide either two expansion ports for serial disk editing or can be disconnected from the computer and used for stand-alone cloning. It is easier and more economical than using image creation software. It cloned an HD to a SSD for me but instructions have to be followed EXACTLY.The user instruction sheet is so small that it is hard to read so it is advisable to look at an online video for setup procedures. No additional drivers were required to edit drives attached to the USB port.

It fixed my TiVo 4 premier unit hard drive
My TiVo 4 premier unit hard drive must have gotten some bad sectors on the hard drive because it would no longer boot up and got stuck on a screen that says “please wait...starting up”.I bought a used hdd drive for my TiVo model off of eBay, but the drive came blank (the seller apparently formats them before shipping which kind of negates the fact that they put the TiVo model in their description) without the OS loaded on it. So the replacement drive was no use to me. I would have had to get an image, load it onto a windows PC with special software and then create a drive from scratch. Plus I have a Mac laptop, so that would have been a pain to get the software running on some sort of VMware.I read a couple of reviews that said how copying a HDD can sometimes fix things because chances are the bad sectors on the drive are just in a recording or some media that you already watched or would delete anyway. For $30 it was worth trying this device and seeing if it worked for my situation.I bought this drive cloner, put my old TiVo drive in the source, put the blank drive in as the target and nothing happened. After reading the directions and following them, nothing still happened. So, using tech skill #2 (skill# 1 is to reboot) I slammed the 2 drives into the case a couple of times, which apparently helped make a better connection and then it worked. I cloned the 320GB hard drive overnight (not sure on total time, but more than 5 hours). Once it was done, I put the cloned drive in my TiVo and everything worked and all my recording were still there. So, by using this $30 drive cloner plus a used $20 hdd, I’ve got a working TiVo again without having to buy a replacement TiVo drive from weakness for $160.If you have a hard drive with some bad sectors on it or don’t want to deal with partitioning, SATA cables, BIOS settings, backup programs, etc. then this is a good way to fix or replace a drive by cloning it onto good media. If you can push a button twice, then you can copy your hard drive without even needing to connect it to a computer.Hard drives are so inexpensive today, that using something like this as a quarterly super simple backup system makes a lot of sense. Just clone your drive, put the copy in your fire safe and don’t worry about it.I hope this review helps others who have a hard drive that is starting to go bad. They are mechanical and don’t last forever. Make sure you have a backup.

Good drive cloner and utility.
Bought this to clone my kid's computer drives to new drives. Then used it to setup my new NAS drives. Love that you can clone a drive on this with no computer. It has a place on my desk rather than my workbench.
