I thought they might be bits of scales, but here is the company's explanation: 17. What are the small crystals resembling glass that are occasionally found in canned seafood? These harmless crystals, called struvite, are formed by magnesium, ammonia and phosphate which are naturally found in canned seafood. Sometimes during the cooking process these elements come together and form what looks like tiny glass particles. I don't know about this salmon but I bought Wild Planet Tuna in Costco recently and it said it was processed in Viet Nam on the can.

Q: I'm seeing mixed responses.....are the cans BPA free??

If the can sealing is BPA free, is there a BPA alternative used instead? The sealing is important for process heating and then shipping.
