Yes, it would be perfect for your situation. Remember, however, that as soon as it dries completely, you need to treat the entire surface to a good waxing...this is a restorative and not wood protection. For that, you need a good quality wax.

Q: will this remove softned finish from a pine desk top or watermarks from cabinet doors?

It won't remove the finish it wont strip the finish. It will blend with the existing finish and create a Restoration of the existing finish. Watermarks yes....as you read the product description I believe, there is mention of watermarks. I love the product and have used it on Kitchen cabinets, furniture, real wood hardwood flooring. I keep it on hand. I know antique dealers who swear by it. Hope this helps.

Didn't work on oak so I don't know.

Q: Ihave dark cherrywood. Should i use mahogany

I have used dark oak on a reddish soft wood, dark pine, & mahogany. Covers my wood products well.
