Best book I've read in a long time!
"Everything is Tuberculosis" is absolutely outstanding. I received it today and read it today. I couldn't put it down. Incredibly well researched, well written, engaging, relevant, fascinating! It's a good thing there's a list of sources at the back because I now have a new book list to read through!

4.2 / 5.0
I enjoyed this but found myself angry at it. Especially with the current state of affairs in the US, this is both historically fascinating and presently infuriating.I cannot think of a better personality to have researched, written, and presented this to us all. John Green is a national treasure and an amazing communicator. It is worth the read, for sure.

I thought TB was a thing of the past
Everything is Tuberculosis is a compelling and accessible read that sheds light on the injustices and inequities in healthcare systems, focusing on tuberculosis (TB). The author blends personal health history with the stories of individuals who have fought TB, humanizing the issue in a way that makes it resonate deeply. The book is straightforward and easy to follow, breaking down complex healthcare topics without oversimplifying them. It’s a powerful call to action, appealing to all readers, regardless of political leanings, by emphasizing universal values of compassion and fairness. The author invites readers to consider their role in creating a more equitable healthcare system.

An issue that deserves more attention...and a better book.
This is a subject that deserves more attention and I have come to learn that the author has been very involved in trying make changes to improve the treatment of TB worldwide. He walks the walk. For that, I can only offer him praise. As for the book, I have to admit that I was hoping for a little more substance and a little more sophisticated analysis. There is an important book to be written about TB, but I fear John Green is not the right author for the task. Some of the information here is excellent and useful, but it is often buried between standard-issue recitations about racism, colonialism, transphobia that don't shed light on the subject. At their worst, there is a vagueness about these passages that can be maddening. They seem more like the writing of a college sophomore than a serious discussion of the issues. Oftentimes, the author will even contradict himself in the very next paragraph. It's a quick read on an important subject, but I hope that a better treatment is written soon.

TB is Curable. So why is Tuberculosis Everything?
This book is about 2 facts.Fact 1. Tuberculosis is the number one cause of death from infectious disease.Fact 2. Tuberculosis is curable.John Green tells you how this came to be. His writing is clean. His educational expertise shines as he explains genuinely complex immunological issues simply but correctly (you can get tuberculosis in your bones!).Green does Vonnegut proud. You learn that Tuberculosis begat the Stetson hat, clean-shaven men, the assassination or Franz Ferdinand, Edgar Allan Poe's whole oeuvre, tuberculin and a truly shocking amount of death. The personal anecdotes are funny, uplifting, gutting and maddening. It's easy to read, and will make you believe that Tuberculosis is everything. And we have the technology to fix fact 1. There is a dream that we may one day speak about tuberculosis in the past tense.
