Good approach and coverage of the subject matter, but the supporting resources have gone AWOL
Like other books in the Head First series, this book on passing the PMP exam deploys a somewhat unconventional approach to the subject at hand. It's more conversational than most other PMP exam preparation books, uses different learning styles, and aims to get your brain to remember stuff without too much heavy lifting. I'd strongly recommend to check out the sample chapters to see if this approach resonates with you.If you like the book's style, there's a lot of good stuff to be said about it. The content is aligned with the requirements of the PMP exam and presented with enough examples to be relevant and memorable, without adding too much clutter. It does run to over 900 pages, and that's a healthy length for a PMP prep book. The book also follows the structure of the PMBOK Guide (A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge), 6th edition, so it's very easy to cross-reference the sections and go deeper into the PMBOK Guide as and when required. What's the downside, then? Well, it's this: the book has been released not even four months ago, and the associated online support resources have, for the most part, gone missing. That Head First forum where you can get involved in the community? It's closed down, along with the rest of the O'Reilly forums. How about the online exam simulator with 100% coverage of the exam objectives that shows you what the test will be like on exam day? It's history, with a 404 error taking its place. In fact, the entire Head First Labs website is gone.So whilst the approach and content of the book are great and I'd certainly recommend considering it if you're preparing for the PMP exam, it really is disappointing to see that the accompanying online resources are no longer available.
