Superhero action adventure based on the 1940s Marvel Comics series. Chris Evans stars as Steve Rogers, who volunteers for a top secret military research project after being deemed physically unfit to enlist in the U.S. Army during the Second World War. The experiment transforms him into super-soldier Captain America, who - along with sidekick Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) - takes on the mighty power of Hitler's henchman Red Skull (Hugo Weaving).

Worth watching...several times
I enjoyed this as much as I do the iron Man films and have worked out why. These two heroes are fallible humans we can relate to who do extraordinary things (or odd things depending on how you look at it...not everyone flies round in a suit of armour or fly an experimental and highly advanced plane when he is a member of the army ground forces etc). On the other hand with the other superheroes we tend to see them as superheroes all the time....as Batman and Superman...or even a god Thor......who just happen to dress up as humans occassionally.Quite a lot of hidden humour in this which I enjoyed and the storyline, while obviously made up and a bit unreal fit into the timeframe and attitudes of the period quite well. A good yarn and am looking forward to the next film coming out on DVD.

A Stellar Introduction to the First Avenger
Captain America: The First Avenger is an outstanding origin story that sets the stage for one of Marvel’s most iconic heroes. Chris Evans is pitch-perfect as Steve Rogers, capturing both his unwavering moral compass and his relatable underdog spirit.Set during World War II, the film immerses viewers in a compelling mix of historical backdrop and superhero action. From Steve’s transformation into Captain America to his battles against Hydra and the menacing Red Skull (played brilliantly by Hugo Weaving), the story is both heartfelt and action-packed. The visual effects, particularly the pre-serum Steve Rogers, are seamlessly done and add to the emotional weight of his journey.Director Joe Johnston expertly balances the film’s tone, blending war drama with lighthearted moments and Marvel’s trademark humor. The supporting cast, including Hayley Atwell as the formidable Peggy Carter and Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, adds depth to the story. The film’s conclusion is bittersweet, perfectly setting up the transition to modern-day Marvel adventures. Whether you’re a long-time comic fan or new to the MCU, this movie is a must-watch. It’s an inspiring tale of heroism and sacrifice that continues to resonate long after the credits roll. Highly recommended!

Establishing the First Avenger - A second viewing
The first time I watched this film I was left deeply disappointed. The story seemed to lack gravitas and depth. However, upon a second viewing you realize that the makers are trying to tell a tale from the 1940's within a 2012 context. Accordingly, it may appear dated but that is actually part of its aim - to establish the back story of Captain America in his time . This it does well, sticking pretty close to the original story line, although there are some anomalies (They accept him for basic army training whilst he is still 4F?) the film hangs together well and provides a good introduction to the much more rounded character that appears in Captain America: Winter Soldier. If you watch that film without seeing this you will be missing the necessary history and it may be more difficult to follow.

Avengers! Old School
This film is a great predecessor for the Avenger films, especially coming from someone who has seen the entirety of the "phases" (true Marvel fans will know). If wanting something easy to watch while piecing together the last fragments of the first infinity stone, this is the perfect film. Unsure how someone could criticise this for being slow or not as action-packed, it is set in the 1940's!

A true hero.
Yup, they've done it again. The moral of this is that it takes more than just a good body to be a hero (although that does help & comes into it later). Chris Evans (no,not the ginger radio presenter thankfully) is brilliant, fighting back after being shelved, & his somewhat sad life story is very well told, Can't wait for the next installment - The Winter Soldier - due out this year.

Excellent film
This dvd turned out to be far,far better than expected. As with all of this type of film you have to suspend believabilty and just enjoy the mayhem. I was pleased that the sountrack is better than most other modern films(you could actually hear the dialogue without full volume) and the imaging also. If you like comic to film productions BUY this

Captain America - First Class Film
Really enjoyed this film - Steve Rogers & Peggy Carter are great characters. Love the way these Marvel films all interlink with one another and I can't wait to watch Captain America - The Winter Soldier. Have also heard that Peggy Carter (played by Hayley Attwell) will be getting her own spin-off tv series. That is definitely good news.
