interesting read
The book was factual based on a lot of references. Easy read but with a lot of historical names hard to pronounce.

Great read and a good historical account
I read this book in a single afternoon, it flows nicely and is well put together. I understand how difficult it is trying to put the historical puzzle pieces together from so many contradictory accounts, but I feel like the author did an admirable job of an impossible task. I bought this book because I wanted to know more about the life of Cyrus II and what made him "great". Now I know.

The success of Cyrus.
The author has done an excellent job of collecting the facts regarding Cyrus the Great. Cyrus had the wisdom and the foresight to build a well ordered and organized nation. One that treated everyone fairly regardless of faith, or nationality. He ruled with fairness and kindess. And was expected by the citizens of the kingdom.

Confusing!!
Interesting take on Cyrus, but different Historians give different facts. Hard to know who to believe.

Quite a lot of information!
I listened to the audiobook version of this book. There is certainly a lot of information included, but the story seemed to jump around to me. I think I would have been better with a print version of this particular book. This is a very informative book, with histories from the entire Middle East region. I may revisit this book in a printed format another time so that I can better keep track of the various names and places.

Cyrus the Great one of the greatest leaders of all time
There have been many rulers of kingdoms and empires but I believe that there have been none greater than the Cyrus the Great. He was a man who was born then taken and raised by a peasant for the first few years of his life and he learned from this all the skills and all of the treatments that a peasant suffered. He then was revealed to his father how's the air hand he was taken back into the Royal Court and raised as the crown Prince. Through these two experiences he learned compassion for all of the people within the kingdom. When he rose to power he did not forget and he ruled with compassion. This book outlines his life as a peasant herder to becoming King of Kings and shows how when he conquered a people he set a local ruler who knew the customs and religions of the local peoples and ruled them according to their own customers and religions. It was he who conquered the Babylonian kingdom and set the Jews free and sent them to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple and paid for the construction of the temple. He organized his government so that there was quick communications from each of the provinces with the capital in a short time. He was able to put down local rebellions and keep peace within the peoples. When he died he was He was mourned because the people had looked at him as the father of the Empire not the tyrannical ruler as had been known of previous rulers. You will learn of many of the innovations which Cyrus instituted in his empire and many of the greatest achievements which he achieved during his lifetime to leave a legacy for future empires to follow. As a former history teacher I highly recommend this book. Much of what we know today has descended from the Persian Empire built by Cyrus the Great.
