Works like a charm
When you need to scan something quick and don't want to march back and forth to a desktop scanner the IRISCan makes it possible. Scans of books and magazines are extremely easy and accurate without having to redo a lot of times.I used this daily and it has really helped to increase my productivity.

Good scanner, l but steep learning curve.
This review applies to the IRISscan Book 3 and Book 3 Executive scanner. In general, this scanner seems to work as advertised and turns out a pretty good scan. I am taking one star off my review because the learning curve to learning to use it is too steep. Here are some of the problems I had:1. The batteries shipped with the scanner are very low quality and only last an hour or so. So you are almost better off putting in fresh good-quality batteries up front. The batteries shipped went dead pretty quickly and the scanner acted like it was working, but it was not. So I wasted a lot of time trying to figure out why.2. The user guide is OK, but a little vague in come areas. This required a lot of experimentation to get the result I expected.3. It took me a long time to figure out how to get the scans from the scanner to my iMac computer. Now that I have scaled the learning curve, it is pretty easy too use and its operation is predictable. So all in all:Pro: Does a good job of scanning and offers a useful assortments of file formats.Con: Steep learning curve.David

Unreliable results.
I tried the scanner upon arrival, and it worked fine. I scanned a dozen pages or so. A few days later, when I scanned a new document, it came out with jagged lines every half inch or so, making the document unreadable. I tried all possible combinations of color/bw, jpg/pdf, resolution, types of paper, and most scans came out bad. I also did a recalibration and change of batteries, but neither helped. I am returning the product back to Amazon :-( It is sad, but I need a reliable scanner.

Three Stars
It is kind of difficult to scan, it doesn't do it well and it takes time too.

Difficult to get good quality when doing a book.
The unit is of high quality. But it still is difficult to maintain speed and a smooth, parallel motion with good enough accuracy to get a good quality scan. Very seldom use it. I still would like to find a good scanner that will do pages of a book without having to damage the binding - and that requires copying within perhaps a quarter inch of the binding when the book is open just 90 degrees.... My excellent HP Officejet cannot do this since the copy/scan glass window stops more than an inch from the edge of the unit. This IRIS unit can get pretty close to the edge but the smooth movement is extremely hard to do repeatedly on a book.

Good product. Batteries were useless. Instructions are a bit hard to understand
The product is fine but there are too many options and software.

And yes I love mine which I use in helping other students with ...
Gave three of these to 2 Granddaughter in college. They still can't thank me enough for what they can accomplish with their studies. Upgraded then to the Readiris Corporate 14 now 15 software that even allow them greater use of the Book 3 Exec Wireless Scan Bar. Has for sure made the college study life much easier for them. And yes I love mine which I use in helping other students with new study ideas. This I think is one of the most overlooked tools for college students.
