Solar panel works well in my van

The set up is easy to assemble and works. The four star rating is because the lights that indicate battery charge do not move beyond 2 out of a possible 4. The battery is new and came charged, also is has been on for 3 sunny days with no drain on the battery and still shows 2 lights. I am not sure whether the control box limits to this level to prevent overcharging, or if there is an issue with the reading of what charge the battery is carrying.Having said that it does charge the battery and I am satisfied, particularly at this price.

I have waited to make sure it works properly before posting this review, and I'm glad to say it does. I have no power on my pontoon so it is keeping my batteries charged. The connections from battery to controller, to panel were simple with the wiring being just long enough to be concealed behind the inner deck skin keeping things tidy. Only problem I had was having to devise a means for fitting the actual panel, by way of a self fashioned right angled bracket, (couldn't by anything) to prevent having to drill directly through the top of my wooden roof and use the only four bolt holes in the panels frame causing possible water penetration, both into the boat and timber. So, just saying, best to think about where and how you are going to fix it, before you buy it if it's going to be permanently on any kind of roof. Don't let that put you off though because the kit itself is, brill. Pity the weather isn't, Gary

I was looking for an answer to a garden project that I was working on, a water feature. I had bought a solar powered water feature a couple of years ago and found that with the Scottish weather it worked OK but infrequently. I needed a solar system that would give me enough power to allow the water feature to charge a small 12 volt lead acid battery to allow running the feature whenever it was wanted, the 12 Photonics kit fitted the bill totally. A super product, totally complete nothing more to buy. A super kit at a great price would thoroughly recommend - could not find anything better!

The kit looks ok, but the actual solar panel is ridiculous, the wired block on the back is thicker than the actual solar panel so would not be able to sit flat, would sit on the cable any way, what is the point of the four holes on the panel, you cannot access these anyway, there should have been a bit more thought gone in to mounting this panel, i will have to make up some sort of brackets. Also why could they not be bothered to strip and make good the ends of the main battery cable so it could be fitted straight into controller.

All parts are nice quality. Instructions are clear. Safe operation is guaranteed if you follow the instructions.

Very pleased with this, I have a sports car that rarely gets used and lives under a cover on my driveway. I don't want to have a mains trickle charger connected [because it's not practical] so I was looking for something that could do the job. Previously I've used a 1.5w panel but it never kept the battery fully charged, so I bought this kit and mounted the panel on the fence next to where the car is stored. It produces a charge even when there's only daylight (rather than direct sunlight) - the PWM feature should also keep the battery in better condition, so that's the icing on the cake. No more flat batteries or stereo/satnav memory losses!A template for mounting the unit would have been nice (TIP: Photocopy the rear of the unit and then use that as a mounting guide!) - the mounting holes are also on the small side, so finding screws that fit is a bit of a pain - it would've been nice if some mounting screws were also included in the kit.

Whoever specified the tiny terminals on the power controller hadn't seen the girth of the cables expected to be installed. The cables (both from the panel and to the battery) were over-tinned with solder and needed some adjustment and struggling to fit. Once in the fit seemed sound, however, the instructions required an educated guess as to how to connect the cables to the solar panel - the battery side was fine, the solar side was - well, a hopeful stab, which seemed to work. Not tested the efficacy of the charging function yet, just pleased I got two green lights and a charging indicator working.Now I've been using it for a while it's completely useless. Didn't make any difference to the battery state, and I wish I had bought the less sophisticated version I use on my van. DO NOT BUY THIS.
