Good value, slimline, filters quickly.
This Brita Aluna jug comes with one Maxtra+ cartridge in the box. I bought 3 extra cartridges separately on an Amazon offer as this worked out cheaper deal.. do some research as there are different combinations and offers on the Brita water jugs & cartridge filters. See also my 7 photos of the Aluna after one days' use..GOOD THINGSLightweight, slimline. The Aluna easily fits in the fridge door.Filtration works brilliantly.. you can taste difference, before & after!Filters quickly (just a few minutes). The pouring spout is hinged and gently tips open as you pour. The funnel insert fits with the 'notch' near handle. The cartridge slots into the funnel, a snug fit.N.b. Some people may mistakenly put inner funnel in wrong way around & complain lid does not fit, SO do take note of the little 'notch.Jug and funnel are dishwasher safe, but not the lid (which contains timer/bar indicator). No problem with opening/closing the lid - simple to remove to fill up from the tap. Alternatively, use another jug to top up Brita Aluna, if filling from under a tap is an issue.THINGS TO CONSIDERYou will have to top up the ALUNA throughout the day for cooking, kettle or cold drinks. I poured filtered water into separate bottle for cold drinks, and use Brita Aluna jug for the kettle. One month for each Maxtra+ cartridge: indicator 'bars go down over time, it is not measuring volume of filtered water. If you use Aluna jug multiple times a day, then replace one month. If you top up less frequently the filter would last longer. The Aluna is ot suitable for large family, as really only holds a litre+ at a time.Instruction booklet is a massive folded up sheet in multiple languages, instructions are mostly visual. No clear information explaining what is filtered, but i am hopeful there is more info online.LASTLYNote: For any one who still ASKS the Q, will it filter hot water??NO, no, no.. you filter your tap water BEFORE heating for hot drinks, cooking, etc.

Fits in the fridge door but has its faults
Got this water filter jug at a great price and the quality of my drinking water has improved vastly since using it. The designated filters last 1 month (2 adults and 2 young children) and you can get deals on the filters so I just stock up when I see them on offer. This also fits into the fridge door which was high on my priority list. The only drawback with this model is that in having to remove the whole lid each time when topping up, the inner compartment can become lodged at an awkward angle and can get very fiddly to readjust, especially when the inner chamber is full of water. The lid will not shut when this middle compartment is off-kilter. It seems to be a somewhat ok trade-off considering the low price but if i were to purchase again, id get the one where you dont have to remove the whole lid when refilling. Other than that, would highly recommend this item.

It did remove the tainted taste of my tap water.
For some reason, our tap water is tasting rather unpleasant, already reported to the water board, but I decided that since I do try to drink a lot of water it was time to try a water filter jug. The Brita's range is really expensive but I thought that this was quite a bargain and since it's a slim fit designed to fit in the door shelf of your fridge the best design. Also if I was to be honest the fact that you can pick up generic filter pods for Britas jugs much cheaper than the branded ones was also a factor.I read other reviews and I see some people aren't happy you have to take the whole lid off and some have issues getting it to fit but I don't mind having to take it off and it fits well. Because I do drink a lot of water I seemed to be constantly filling it but I now fill it and as soon as the water has passed through the filter I decant it into a much larger water jug and do that until the larger jug is filled with filtered water. Again this is just because I try to drink 3-4 litres a day.The filters are only supposed to last 1 month and in fact, there is a very simple little meter on it which counts down the weeks so you know when the filter needs to be changed and again they're rather pricey but cheap ones do seem to be more readily available so you may want to factor in future costs when choosing a water filter. As for the flavour of the water to me I can taste something, it's hard to describe but I think that because apart from my morning coffee I don't drink squashes or pop or fizzy drinks so my palette is more sensitive to subtle changes which most people really just wouldn't even taste. So I'm happy with it but of course whatever was happening with my tap water supply seems to have been resolved and now I can drink tap water without the need to filter it, actually, that just reminds me yes this filter DID remove the unpleasant taint my tap water had so I'd definitely say that's a win but now my tap water has gone back to being drinkable I will not bother using the jug.
