Cheap, very capable, a little slow... does not run AVX instructions
The title says most of it. It's a good chip if you're not running anything super demanding like content development. It will do it reliably, but it's a bit slow. Probably good for teaching kids patience. It's getting outdated though, because it doesn't run AVX instructions... in lamens if you try to play Cyberpunk 2077 with it, it will crash your video drivers. It's likely AVX instructions will be used in software more and more so this chip might be useless in a few years.... assuming loads of programmers have shifty coding practices like CD Project Red. Many programs have workarounds, so there is hope for this chip yet.Badly optimized games aside, it will play most games flawlesy. I played portal without a GPU and it was brilliant. Paired with the good old NVidia GTX1080 I play Mortal Kombat 10/11 with the graphics maxed out no problem. Provided the game is optimized well it will play nicely... might need to lower the graphics though.

A great processor, however...
This CPU is great value for money as for gaming it's a sweet spot, an i7 is unnecessary as the main difference between the two would be hyperthreding, i5 lacks of it. For gaming it's not needed either (unless it's a dual core, then it helps) Unofficially you're able to overclock this CPU with a Z170 motherboard.I personally have been able to overclock this to @4.4GHz so far by increasing the base clock to 160MHz (I think) and underclocking my RAM in order to maintain stability. Note that overclocking on a non K CPU will void warranty and your mileage may vary in terms of OCHowever the Kaby Lake counterpart is the same price on Amazon so you're better off getting the optimised version of this CPU.Intel Core i5-7500 3.40 GHz Base Frequency Quad Core 6 MB Cache CPU Processor - Black

Perfect if you don't want to overclock
I bought this for my first PC build. Now if you're anything like me then you will have spent months researching the best parts for your build. After deciding on a budget (and throwing it out the window when I actually bought the parts) I decided that knowing that Kabylake was coming out soon I opted to save money on my first CPU and then empty my bank account on an i7 Kabylake k series chip. That's why I went for the 6500.This is a very respectable chip and is not something to turn your nose up. It performs well and comes with a cooler which is perfectly acceptable if you're not overclocking (which you won't be with this chip).I paired mine with an ASUS z170-A mobo and Gigabyte GTX 1070 GPU for a gaming PC. It has yet to struggle with anything I throw at it, including VR!

Good processor, hasn't let me down yet
Good processor, hasn't let me down yet, easy enough to install, but there's a reason it's not 5 stars. If you can fork out an extra few pounds, have a look at this one instead: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-Cache-Processor-i5-6600-Turbo/dp/B010T6D39O/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1484335188&sr=8-3&keywords=intel+i5+6600 because you're getting a little more for a little more, and it balances out well- may be that extra potential 2 or 3 fps, is that worth seven quid to you? (I'm going off prices at time of writing, I got the 6500 on sale, so the price difference was higher, and I'm justifying my buyer's regret). As for the missing star, this is because owing to certain couriers delivering on days later than they were meant to (why is ebuyer still using yodel?), all of the parts for my current build arrived over four days when it should have been half that time. Amazon however have always been good for me, and their parcel arrived when it was meant to, along with another company who delivered my motherboard. Long story short, I had everything apart from a power supply, graphics card and OS, and was left to put this in with no idea of whether or not I'd done it correctly, and the horrible sound it makes as you clamp it down feels worse than watching someone burn £189.99, because you have to deal with the failure as well. Folks, remove the black plastic cover from the cpu cover on the motherboard, and keep your blood pressure low.

Probably the sweet spot in the Skylake range? Fast, cool and not too expensive.
Very impressed with this CPU. I've used AMD CPUs for years because I wasn't a big fan of Intel. However, AMD seem to have lost their way and if you want a decent CPU that performs well and doesn't contribute to global warming Intel seems to be the way to go. Installed this in a new build and it is running way, way quicker and cooler than my old AMD Phenom X4. The main difference I notice is in image editing where Photoshop Elements opens up in half the time and can make changes to images in real time which it couldn't before.

Excellent cpu
Extremely fast CPU. I went for the i5 skylake as its all I could afford. I felt the i5 and i7k's were very expensive.Easily installs into my motherboard as long as care is taken not to bend the CPU pins. The heatsink and fan comes with thermal paste already applied. It simply is a push down and click installation process. The fan is noisy on initial boot up but runs extremely quite and very cool after that. I haven't put it under extreme loads yet but I am well impressed with this for the price.

11/10 computer technicians agree.
ITS A PROCESSOR. IT PROCESSES THINGS. Having trouble deciding what processor you want? The i7 to expensive? well look no further. This might cost money, but who cares, when you can process things way quicker than other lower processors, and only slightly less faster than the i7. seriously this is a good processor and in comparison with the i7 id choose this one (cause im poor and spent all my money building a pc...) i did some benchmark tests between this one an i3 and an i7. there was a 2%-10% difference between the to in the tests i did (for science!) so if you want a processor, id go for this one. if you are looking to over clock, i wouldn't get this one, but ya can if ya want.
