Totally worth it and no negative side effects for us
We have tried a few different things for our miniature poodle (had her for 4 years, adopted from shelter as a pup) and she has always been so worked up when I leave for work. My schedule changes a bit as does my husband's so we noticed that affected her. We also get a lot of visitors and truly ger reaction has been to act out when things aren't consistent, or when certain people come and go... She also is just always really hyper and has a hard time focusing even though she is a pretty well trained dog. Once in awhile she will have an accident when we leave and the schedule has shifted... And recently I noticed she was hiding under the bed more when she knows full well that if she waits patiently when I get ready for work, that she gets a treat. I had to coax her down the stairs to get her treats a few times, so I thought what the heck lets try something anti-anxiety.I did a few treats randomly - not consistently - and noticed no change. But she did like them, no problem there. She did not get sick or anything. (She weighs 4 lbs)Then this past week I used one everyday for the entire work week. My husband commented on Wed, Thurs and Fri that she was being sooo good. Listening, not begging for food, doing all the things we trained her to do without her usual ADHD! Amazing. Our parents even noticed and they only see her every couple of months.I was concerned she might 'overly' responsive and maybe should cut back, but then her normal energy does kick in when appropriate and we play for an hour with her toys. So we decided we are not concerned about that at all.I am definitely going to order more. Our other dog's temperament and responsiveness are about the same as hers without his taking any of the composure. So I do have a good measure of what is normal behavior given our other pooch.Overall I thought this was a really good buy!

Fearful dog now at least 50% better
I adopted a prior puppy mill dog 2 weeks ago. After five years in a puppy mill, she has a lot of fear along with a lot of other issues (like not knowing how to drink from a bowl, or play with a toy). For two weeks she wouldn't come from her crate unless hooked on a leash and brought outside or to eat. If we pet her, she'd simply huddle in a ball and shake in terror. When on a leash, she fought us and wouldn't stop until she was unhooked outside away from us. Any time we had to pick her up, she peed and/or pooped in fear. We did a training session with a dog trainer in our area, and she recommended these. In 3 days, there's been a huge improvement. It's far from perfect, but the change is fantastic. She's coming out of her crate regularly, sometimes to just stretch her legs and sometimes to explore. She's been trying to play with our other dog in her own way. She sniffs the toys and tries to play with them (though lack of knowledge means she isn't really sure what to do or why my other dog loves them). She lets me pet her without shaking, and even licked my hand for the first time ever. She begs for food, follows us around, and has only had one accident - when she ventured far enough through the house to see herself in a full length mirror for the first time and flipped.Again, it's not perfect but it's so much better. She's so much more like a dog without problems that we can begin the slow training and healing process and I'm so thankful for these. Some quick tips though:-These can make the dog's stomach upset. Feed it right after a meal.-My dog doesn't like them but after eating the same terrible food for years she's very picky. We cut one up and mix it with wet food in the morning and do this again at night.-Give it a few days for results. It took from Thursday until now to work.Very thankful for these.

Could be better
Not sure these helped in calming my pup. May work for others.

It works in some cases
First: taste and texture. My dog is using to having vitamin chews and previously accustomed to counting them as treats so she had no trouble doing the same with these and eating it right away. Its solid and not falling apart which I like compared to another brand calming chews that had the package with most pieces crumbled apart but with this I order 30 and I got 30 pieces intact. Function: my dog is not bothered by thunder etc. but has separation anxiety. I give these to her 30 minutes before leaving, proceed to walk her and then I leave the house. She used to sit and whine and bark cry by the door as I observed her. Now she roams around the house and eventually comes back to sit/sleep at the door but the crying has stopped so shes just quietly waiting. My dog also has anxiety at the vet, unfortunately this did not help for that though. I started with a bag of 30 but will be buying more as its definitely worth it based on my experience.
