A major road accident is nothing more than a split second of panic and confusion; an act of terrible violence that both changes and destroys lives, with a cause and effect quality that can ripple out across the entire world. Beyond the crumpled cars and emergency services are the invisible dramas and when DI John Tolin begins his investigation he finds himself drawn into many different and dangerous worlds.

but the writing and the excellent cast manage to pull it off with aplomb
A big pileup on the A12 reveals lots of secrets and lies. It's the job of DI John Tolin (Doug Henshall) to untangle it all and get to the cause of the crash, while he's still coping with the aftermath of his own personal tragedy. The plot is fast and furious, involving crimes, theft, coverups, betrayal, murder and deception galore along with a bucketful of red herrings. It's all a bit unlikely, but the writing and the excellent cast manage to pull it off with aplomb. It kept me riveted and I watched the whole series in one night. It ends with a lovely series of montages showing what might have happened to the main characters if one small action in the first episode had happened differently - a sort of mini-"Sliding Doors". The final episode was a bit rushed and leaves several plot threads unresolved; I would have liked a second series!

Excellent intrigue, good acting
We really liked this from start to finish. Pieces of the story at different times are introduced and intermingled and this helps the story to unfold in an interesting way, without giving too much away at the beginning. The focus is on the investigation into what happened and how the police piece together the puzzle. There are lots of threads and unknowns to keep you guessing until the final episode and we found the conclusion brilliant, if unusual. No ridiculous car chases, no extreme violence, no sex, just a solid story well scripted and executed. The 'Making of' on disc 2 is also very interesting.

Collision
It was a good story but the way they presented it on the disc which was not clear in fact confusing. 6 small parts on disc one and 12(but it only shows on the menu 6) small parts on disc two. I only firstly watched the 6 on one and 6 one the other. This did not help the story line. I had to go back and re watch it.I felt also it need more explanation in the story or what was the links. Still I did enjoy it. Douglas again played a good part and seems to have based this character in this as a bases for the one he plays in Shetland.

One small action can have huge repercussions
We watched the whole season in one evening. This is an excellent drama similar to the Australian 'The Slap' in that we look at many people whose lives meet in one car crash. The story is told in flash back at times but it is clearly shown when each scene is taking place. the stories are all interesting and it kept us hooked to the end. tThe acting is first rate and you are drawn into some very sad stories while others are truly horrible people and seem to get away with murder quite literally.Anther great British drama and worth a watchThe end is clever

Motorists beware !
Yet another solid English drama, 'Collision' is a major achievement in carrying a truck load of characters yet not being at all confusing. The use of travelling backwards and forwards in time enabled the writers to flesh out all the characters and allow the plot to unfold episode by episode.Despite what one reviewer said about the actual collision scenes (and an actor's hair do - give me a break !), I felt they were terrifyingly realistic. As someone who drives long distances on major freeways every week, I was once again reminded of how completely abitrary, and calamitous, some accidents are. I shall be even more vigilant in maintaining my distance from other vehicles whilst travelling at 110 km/h. I'd almost go so far as to say that this should be mandatory viewing for all drivers, particilarly those that use high-speed roadways.Prepare yourself for a bumpy but gripping ride with 'Collision', easily sustained through all five well crafted episodes. Highly recommended, except to those who live vicariously through attaching themselves to minor celebrities and think everyone working for The Met should have fab hair:-) This is the real world, and as such, not all characters are portrayed as catwalk models. Surpringly, not all of the uniformed Met workers get their hair done at Realhair in Chelsea, and their uniforms are not made and designed by Lacroix. If potential viewers think this may be an issue, this mini-series is not for you. If this is a serious criticism by the reviewer, then I think it clearly gives you an idea of her priorities in film production.

No subtitles
Probably brilliant but sadly no subtitles.

excellent
i bought this DVD for two reasons: Amazon reviews and having loved Foyles war i felt that the writer Anthony Horowitz can do no wrong. This is a very clever story about a tragic accident and the people involved whose lives were effected by it. It is not just a story about a crash, but five interwoven stories that have been brilliantly pieced together by the writer. Why it happened,is an anti-climax and i won't spoil it for you, but you will have to wait till the end to find out why, and when you do you may feel like i did, in that the "why" is not really relevant. As the plot unfolds, all is not what it seems and this is what endeared me to the series. The story developes slowly as Detective Inspector John Tolin puts it altogether piece by piece and you actually kick yourself as you naturally come to the wrong conclusions. Like a detective novel, you are sure you have got the right killer only to get to the last page and you ask yourself, "why didn't i think of him"?In conclusion, do what i did and put an evening aside and watch it one go. First class British entertainment like only the Brits can do !!
