Max 36" depth without an extension. Bought this to help install a fence, digs 36" post hole in about a minute. No issues digging in the sandy soil with some clay here. It will cut thru small roots, larger ones will stop it, and you'll have to cut them. Heavy wet clay soil can stop it as well. Rocky soil will slow it, if rocks are heavy you may have to stop and break them up. Easy to use, let it do the work. Added gas and it started right up no problem runs great.

If you have dozens and dozens of post holes to dig, buy an attachment for your tractor. This beast performs in tight spaces and when digging a few holes at a time. Digs a 3 foot hole in heavy clay soil in a couple of minutes. Wish I'd had the money to buy one years ago. Starts easily and performs as advertised.

For the price it's hard to beat. I had to drill 50 21" holes for fence posts and that's about as deep as you can get out of this, unless you can get a longer bit. If it catches a rock be prepared to get a good yank on your arms. If it hits any rock at all its not going through it so have a digging bar and post hole diggers handy. I think it did 35-36 of my post holes with reasonable ease and I hand dug the rest. Great machine.
