Summer Learning HeadStart, Grade 4 to 5: Fun Activities Plus Math, Reading, and Language Workbooks: Bridge to Success with Common Core Aligned ... (Summer Learning HeadStart by Lumos Learning)

I have been using Lumos Learning books for my kids for past two years. This is the first time I bought their Summer Learning headstart book for 4 to 5 grade book. The book is well organized and I hope my kid will like it too. He hasn’t started working on it yet. I have given him some play time as he just finished his school last week. I am planning to get him started from next week. Ok, coming back to the book review. The book offers exercises in Math, English reading and writing. It also has few fun activities in between lesson for kids, which is really good making sure kids don’t get bored. The book claims to offer online activities but I have not yet gone online to see what they have there. I will update my review once I see online exercises.Per English language exercises, I observed that few lessons are same as in the grade book. For instance, reading comprehension lessons are repeated. So for kids who have worked on those lessons in grade book (4th grade in our case), kids may feel repetitive. And you know kids with good memory end up choosing the answer right away without even reading the paragraph.Overall the book would certainly help parents in ensuring the kids are engaged through summer and remember their learnings that would be a foundation for their upcoming grade. Appreciate the great efforts of the team in coming out with this book.Certainly would recommend the book Summer Learning Headstart 4 to 5.

Great book filled with learning activities to bridge the transition from 4th grade to 5th grade and encourage learning over the summer. It helps to prevent the summer slide. Also, you are able to connect activities to the online resources which was helpful. I recommend this book for summer time to help foster learning.

I just started using this book with my son. I like how the workbook includes math and reading so that I do not need to find different books for each subject. My son just completed 4th grade and we only started week 1 of this workbook. My son liked how each daily assignment was only 3 pages long. He was able to do most of week 1 himself but I did have to help and teach some of the math as he didn't learn the skills in his 4th grade class.

This is not my first time buying Lumos Learning Books. I like that their books are very easy to use and easy to follow for my kids. I was looking for something that would kick start our Summer after Distance Learning. I found that this book is a good starter. I bought the 4 to 5 Summer Learning HeadStart Book. The Math and ELA practice are up to date with Common Core Standards. For Math, the exercises target all the concepts that they learn in 4th grade. I find it very helpful that all detailed explanations of the answers are given at the end of the book. On top of that, if you log on online with their code, kids can do the same exercises online, plus additional videos links and resources that they can use, if they don't understand a particular concepts. As a bonus this book offers additional summer activity ideas, articles, and projects throughout the entire book. So, it is not just learning but also fun.The only drawback for me, is that there isn't enough practice per day overall. For Math there is only about 4-5 questions a day and for ELA 2 passages with multiple choices questions. I wish they had more. Even though the book advertise with foundations of Grade 5, this book is more targeted at reviewing 4th grade concepts to get them ready for 5th grade. I would supplement with additional books from Lumos if you are a parent that would like them to have more practice.Overall I am very happy with this book and will also buy the other grade levels for my other kids.

Helps me get the kids ready for the next school year!! I like how it has Math and ELA for as daily activity. Well thought and put together. Highly recommend.

Buying this book was the best decision I made for my children this summer. I highly recommend this book

I bought this for my soon-to-be 5th grader. I wanted her to work on it alone, but there has been so many typos, she often gets confused. Some of the questions I need to Google because I don’t know what they are asking, and I am a HS science teacher. I think there are probably better choices out there, but we will continue to work through this book and not purchase from this publisher next time.
