How do I use these ?

Thread the ends of the straps through the loops, this will form a circle at 1 end of the strap. Then put the straps on your hands, slide your hands through the circles or attach the straps with the hook-and-loop fasteners so the end of the straps hang down along your fingers. Pull on the ends of the straps or adjust the fasteners until the straps fit snugly around your wrists.
 
Wrap the ends of the strap around the bar and holding the weight, start by going under the bar from back to front, and then wrapping the strap over the top and under again. Wrap the strap completely around the bar.
 
Place your hands over the straps. Close your palm and fingers over the area where the straps are wrapped around the barbell. This is what holds them in place. When you let go, they should slide off easily. If you're uncomfortable, re-wrap the straps to tighten or loosen as necessary.

Roll the bar toward you. Rolling the bar will tighten the strap. Do this until the straps pull on your wrists. Do not start lifting before the straps are tight--you will not get the full benefit of using lifting straps and may increase the risk of injury.

Lift the weight. Take care not to force your wrists to hold the entire weight as you lift. The lifting straps should let your wrists assist you in maintaining your grip on the bar, not do all the work.

What are the gym straps made of?

"Probably made from heavy-duty cotton, because cotton lifting straps are the most common straps that you’ll see worn in the gym. These weight lifting straps are plenty sturdy for my purposes, and they’re extremely comfortable to wear. As you lift weights with straps, the loop around your wrist will pull and tug on your skin. These material will feel soft, the wrist padding is sufficient to keep the strap from cutting into my skin.

I use these lifting straps for a variety of uses. The most common use for is for heavy-duty liftings like deadlifts or other pulling exercises that work your traps (workouts like lat pulldowns and rows). I haven't used other lifting straps to make a comparison, however, I don't see a need to try now, as this set of straps has done an excellent job."

If your intent is to improve the size and strength of a certain muscle group, and using straps improves your ability to do so, wear them without shame. Some examples include:

Shrugs
Deadlifts 
Romanian deadlifts
Rack pulls
Curls

All these exercises are intended to improve muscle size and strength in the upper back, traps, and hamstrings—not to directly train a competition lift. Therefore, there's no reason not to wear straps, especially if you can't hold on to the bar long enough to fatigue the target muscle group."
