No, there is nothing to the rod through

In short, you can alter the length but you can't alter the width. If this product is too tall for your door, fold the top down to make it the appropriate length and sew across the top making a pocket for the rod to fit through. I've done this on a couple of them and it works great. Because the width of the product matches the width of the door, it may be a little small.

Q: How invisible is the screen? Our window screens are so fine we can't see them and it doesn't spoil the view. Do these create visual interference?

This one is a silver color so it doesn't darken like the others and you do have some obscuring of the outside but it is worth it for being able to leave the door open. I have been using these screens for 20 years. they are perfect when you have pets.
