Kisses from papa
Although basic, this cookbook is really something you can use to get a good handle on a variety of flavours and ingredients in the kitchen. A simple cookbook from a simple man, which yields great results.Let's face it, not everyone wants to struggle with their phone while making cookies, or get distracted by a text while making ramen, so having a book on hand that not only looks stunning, but is easy to navigate and understand is an added bonus. The book is broken down into chapters ranging from simple pickling techniques and sides, to more complex dishes like tiramisu, all of which are explained clearly. As someone who spends a great deal of time in the kitchen this is a great way to shake up the bland plates you usually serve and reinvent flavour in the kitchen. As a first release from Josh it covers a staggering amount that you can take at your own pace and try.Sometimes you gotta throw an idea of what you think is good to make way for what it could become and this book is exactly that. It covers a lot of bases for a beginner while being something visually pleasing that a more experienced cook can look back on and maybe take a few ideas, which is what Josh and his team are all about. And anything else you wanna try or don't quite understand can easily be looked up on his YouTube channel, with recipes that carry across from one platform to another, just with a little more information.

A "but better" take on the all-in-one cookbook
I first came across Joshua at the beginning of 2020 as a Youtube channel that had food (yum), jokes and a strong theme of enjoyment and lightheartedness. Over the next year (and a bit) I really grew to love watching Josh's "but better" and "but cheaper" and of course his baking. While the world started it's sourdough journey so did I, but under the parasocial teaching of someone who knows how to cook but also knows how to have shed-loads of fun, make a well placed dirty joke and to always name his dough a stupid name. The Cookbook loses none of Josh's humour or love of food - the concepts of taking what food you love and building an appreciation by making it yourself to really build a love of food and cooking are throughout. The recipes are build-able, starting simple and giving you room to grow and experiment with the building blocks of tried and tested recipes and are presented and shot in beautiful and inviting ways. This book would be perfect for those who enjoy perfecting the pillars of good food but also for those venturing out into the world of cooking for the first time. For me Josh reignited my love of cooking by bringing me back to those staples I thought I had down ( I can cook a steak, right?) to challenging if a fast-food joint burger can really stand up to one I lovingly made myself (Hello "better than Popeyes chicken sandwich" and "smash burgers").So Papa, thank you for making this book. But, do you know what's stacked better than an Amazon warehouse?........ B-roll!

Does what it says on the tin
This is an excellent book; much more than a collection of recipes. It’s abundantly clear that Josh is feverishly enthusiastic about preparing good food from scratch and has absolutely no patience with the reliance on mediocre takeout or convenience fodder. Although some “recipes” are pretty basic they lay a foundation for any non-cook to enable them to get started making stuff themselves and impart the skills to allow progression to more complex dishes. Photographs are lovely and explanations are clear and well written. Quite witty too! I bought this after binge watching YouTube and got my teenager and her friends into the channel too - this book is really for her (friends grabbed it too) but both of us have made things from it. Recommended.

Overall good buy
Very good book, got it because I'm a fan of his channel, used it already for a friend's birthday meal, was a hit 👌. However it is important to note that this is not a recipe book if you're looking for recipes for dishes. It does contain good recipes for bread and sauces etc. but this is not a recipe book for complete meals or dishes.

Great book
I love this book! I first noticed Joshua by his cooking videos on facebook which I became obsessed with so when I found out he had a book I knew I needed it! I love that the book has such a variety of recipes which talk you through the basics and how you can make the most out of what you eat. If your a beginner cook this book really shows you the way around the kitchen and if your a professional it challenges you to step out of your comfort zone and try something new! There’s something for everyone.

More than just recipes!
I have not tested every recipe yet. Not even close! I’ve only had it a week. But I have read through it. This is a book for everyone. I would recommend to use the book as the author intended and start from the beginning. The book builds on the basics. And that knowledge and skill will carry over to the recipes further along in the book. Even experienced cooks will enjoy using new ingredients and trying new techniques. The book itself seems well made and is easy to follow. The passion of the author for quality and form and wanting to share that passion to others comes across from page one. There are hints of the comedic powerhouse cook on YouTube but this book is the real deal. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to learn about food and it’s preparation, whether a novice or experienced. It belongs on everyone’s bookshelf.
