Peace of mind for a lone traveler
Just in case anyone else is as easily confused as I am: the battery (not included) is a standard 9-volt such as smoke alarms use. There are two sections on the bottom. The latch pinches toward the larger section, which tilts up and can be pulled off. The battery has (+) and (-) poles which face the metal contacts, which are also marked for plus and minus. Then the cover tilts back on the alarm and snaps down toward the latch. We practiced with the "low" setting and it was plenty sensitive for an ordinary door opening. And yes, plenty loud. I appreciate another reviewer who mentioned that emergency services like fire and ambulance could still enter by ignoring the din and using strong force, in case we needed them, unlike possibly stronger devices that lock the door at the latch. The potential for a loud racket in a hotel gives me an extra measure of comfort and security.

*VERY* LOUD, LOUD, L-O-U-D!
*VERY* LOUD, LOUD, L-O-U-D! Definitely works, does what it's supposed to. Lol pics show it next to a standard size Bic lighterI do wish there was volume control rather than sensitivity. I'm using this my first night at a budget hotel, glad I have it; definitely gives me some peace of mind, especially given the deadbolt doesn't fully work on my door. Happy I have this & the other door jammer thing I bought on Amazon, these 2 items together are the ultimate security, peace of mind duo.Have to give it 4 stars because it's my first night using it plus I'd take off a star anyway for no volume control.Note: dogs don't like the sound this thing makes, it's louder than smoke detectors (not quite as high pitched, but definitely louder)

A Great Safety Tool, but floor must be flat
In the summer I was looking at my outdoor camera from that night, I came across someone on my porch, not sure what they were doing, but they walked the whole porch before something startled them & they left. I have these doorstops on my back & inside garage door, if someone were to try to enter, the alarm is so loud that it will wake your neighbors! I had bought the 2 mentioned but didn't have one on my front door, though I gave this 5 stars, it does not work with my front door. The floor by that door is lower & the alarm needs to be the same level to stay in or it just gets pushed not setting off alarm. I still recommend this, just be sure your floors are flat..they can be carpeted, its just the door can't sit higher. The noise from it will at least wake you if in correctly & you can be prepared.

No actual mechanism
The media could not be loaded. It's simple, just put a 9volt battery in and it should work according to the set buttons right?Nope, played around with it to see how the pushing mechanism works, nothing is actually pushed. The battery just sits there. Then I was wondering why it wouldn't sound the alarm until I physically had to push the battery. Tried other batteries (such a waste of money) and same thing.Honestly, unless you somehow engineer it to ACTUALLY push into the alarm, there's no way the push mechanism that it comes with does anything.Still works with the alarm, BUT JUST BY YOU DOING THE PHYSICAL WORK ON THE BATTERY, NOT THE ITEM *AND* BATTERY.So in simpler words:Yeah, no, don't even try buying it.If you do, the instructions are written on the outside of the box, no booklet, just on the box. It says to look at figures 1 and 2, but where? Without a booklet or online instruction sheet, which doesn't come with any, where am I supposed to see figures 1 and 2?

L O U D !
Well, it does work, I can say that. With the small setting, it woke up the block here in downtown. It is so strong, I removed the battery as an extra precaution while flying. I am definitely secure in case someone opens the door!

Great when it Works
I recently bought this doorstop for my apartment and for my travels and it has been a useful tool when it works properly. It holds tight and is definitely loud, which is great for busy buildings with many people traveling outside. However, there is an issue with its performance. On some floors or after some time of using it, it becomes loose and slides on the floor. It really depends on the floor you have and plan to use it on, but it might be a better investment to get a lock type of door stop instead of this one, depending on your needs and the conditions in your building.
