These are the TESLA of Power Tools - Awesome battery life and cutting power...don't hesitate, you'll be glad you didn't.
Man oh man do I love the EGO power tools...just got this for my birthday and that gives me an Hedge Trimmer, String Trimmer, Lawn Mower, and Blower...they are all great and if you get three batteries (the lawn mower battery is pretty good size 4.0amp... so that plus two of the 2.5 amps are great for me to swap out and get all the grass mowed, edged, and blown). Ego products are quality built, they have a great web site with all the info you need on the device and even a great registration page - I have nothing to give but praise for EGO for their tools - all well thought out with many "features" you'll appreciate when using them. MUCH MUCH better than the B&D brand, which is cheaper, but clearly - cheaper. AND I LOVE B&D for their drivers and drills, just not garden tools (and I've had their mowers and weed eaters for years). Oh yes, power - these tools are every bit as powerful as GAS models and while I'm sure we have some HANK HILL types that will disagree and love GAS...these tools will do anything as good if not better, weigh less, and are exceedingly quiet in the process. Lithium Cordless tools have finally made cordless worth while - kudos.

Great Trimmer, A little unbalanced as expected. Not a deal-breaker.
Just purchased this hedge trimmer, replacing a Fiskars hand trimmer, which I love. I have had Ego mower and other Ego devices for 6 years. It works fast and great. This is definetly the type of device that in my hands would eat extension cords for lunch. These 56v batteries are great.I thought that 24" was going to be too long, but I see that is a requirement for balance. Even with 24" blade, the battery pack (2.5 AH) still makes it a bit back-heavy. Not unexpected, and similar to the EGO 5300 leaf blower. I actually liked the longer length, as it made leveling the top of the bushes much easier and take fewer passes. So, yeah, good size.Other than that, works like all these EGO products do. They let me have have a 1/4 acre lot SFR and not own a gas can. I'm probably the only one in the HOA who doesn't.

Great product but HEAVY
Initially ordered a Black and Decker trimmer because I have their saw which is an excellent product. When the trimmer came it required some assembly including removing some screws which were supposedly only partially attached to the handle. However, they were locked in place and could not be removed and thus prevented assembly. Disappointed I returned it.I spent a lot more time comparing reviews and the EGO had virtually no negative reviews and a huge amount of very positive reviews. So I went for it. It comes with no battery which normally would have been a deal breaker since purchasing an EGO battery is expensive if you do not already have one. I had one which came with my EGO leaf blower. If you have one EGO battery, it will work in any EGO cordless tool. Mine did.It is a terrific product. It comes fully assembled, the instructions on how to use are well written and clear. It works perfectly. The safety features are well thought out. You have to hold both handles, front and rear for the trimmer to cut. It does not work if you hold only one which makes it impossible to accidentally start the blades. So, it cannot be used one handed which unless you had a lot of arm strength would not be possible anyway.Basically, this is a perfect product except for one thing which is why I gave it four stars and not five. It is very heavy for a trimmer. Why is so heavy? Because the EGO battery, just by itself is not light and when inserted into the trimmer the tool becomes quite heavy. Just how heavy, I have not weighed it buy I would say 10 pounds. Maybe more. While that may not seem like a lot, believe me, after a minute or two it is. Though I am 70 years old, I am not a weakling. I train German Shepherd Dogs that can weigh 90 pounds or more. However, dead weight, especially with your arms extended, is a very different thing. Their leaf blower is also heavy but they offer a shoulder strap which makes all the difference. It would not work for a trimmer.Bottom line...this is a fantastic tool. If you good arm strength, i.e. better than average, go for it. It is clearly the best. I do not recommend it for women unless they are weight lifters. But as great as this tool is, and it is really good, think twice before you purchase it. It is heavy and you will have to rest every couple of minutes.

Great tool. Glad I bought it!
Very powerful, but the posted ability of cutting up to an inch thick branch may be a bit optimistic. 1 cm is more realistic. Battery lasted for all the work I needed to do. Not as heavy or cumbersome as some earlier reviews might lead you to think. I found it much easier to manage than the two electric cord trimmers I have.

Impressive cordless performance
Bought this without battery or charger based on my experience with the EGo string trimmer, which is also excellent. I used the 56 Volt 4 mA battery and charger purchased with the string trimmer. This tool cuts aggressively, is relatively easy for me to use in both horizontal and vertical cuts, and had tremendous battery life. I trimmed a short hedge in front of the house, around the mailbox, and along some 350 feet of road frontage using only about 1/3 of a battery charge. It cut regular grass, reedy tall grass (weeds), wild rose, woody honeysuckle (not just first year green growth) and small sassafras trees with no trouble. I was a bit surprised there is no ‘safety’ switch. If you squeeze both handles it starts cutting, so be careful how you pick it up. Only other negative is the weight with the big battery is more than my wife wants to deal with and even I found it a little heavy trying to cut overhead. I’ll take that tradeoff for the power and ability to finish a task on one charge. Definitely satisfied and can recommend. This and the string trimmer are both big steps up from the Black and Deckers I used previously.
