Wonderful read!
Really enjoyed it. While reading, I occasionally felt like I was actually there, walking with you. I wish that peace could come, once and for all, in that land…

A fine summer read
While not as fluid or adventurous as his other works, still a fine read nonetheless. Tackling the subject of the Middle East from western eyes bent on objectivity was no easy task.

Fantastic and very relevant read.
This book gives insight into the complexities of the Middle East. Very well written. Hard to put down. Next best thing to traveling there.

Wonderful traveler log of the Arab world
Easy to read. Just enough facts to not be boring but to give perspective. I was traveling to Dubai and had no knowledge of the Arab countries. Highly recommend

I didn't want the book to end.
What a trip!I felt like Mr Wood had me packed in his rucksack during this adventure. Arabia is a part of the world I will never be able to explore physically. But after reading this great book, and learning so much about the region, I can smile and say: "I've been there."

Good But Not Lev’s Best
Perhaps the only reason for three stars is that this journey Wood takes is a journey often spent dogging bullets, and strife. I know Wood was in the military but I picked up more of military conflict and writing, than the journey through lands that most of us will never see. There was just something missing from this book. I’ve read most, but this is different.

A really interesting and inspiring read
One of my favorites. I found it interesting and inspiring. I've been to the Middle East a couple of times and his description of the people and places I visited are spot on. A really good read
