Excellent value..easy to set up
I read all the reviews for this product and took note of what people were saying about connectivity.....I'm 61 and consider my technology appliance average.....this printer was a doddle to set up !!!! It took about half an hour from opening box to printing off a sample sheet !.. both android phone and laptop connected really easily...£1.99 for 50 sheets a month minimum if you decide to take contract...worth 2 quid a month not to run out of ink !!!!For the price ..excellent value !

printer great, hp support... well they're useless.
Initially had a nightmare installing this, but after some investigation found it didn't like the WPA3 setting on my eero wifi setup, once I switched that off it joined straight away and the rest was a breeze. however, someone at HP's end had performed a software update that meant their country code mapping was wrong and had my device marked as being in Afghanistan so I was originally unable to enrol into smart ink. I found getting through o their support team to rectify this, somewhat painful. Once I eventually got through to a competent person it was easily sorted. however, getting there through a series of people for whom English was clearly not their first language was extremely painful.

Printastic
As usual this product arrived within 24 hours. It was in an original HP box. The physical side of setting it up was simple. The setup process was a bit more difficult. I have used and set up printers for years, but this one took a while. The documentation was not great apart from installing the start up inks. I had some difficulty with putting them in, as you need to bend and fiddle them into their slots. I have fat fingers and left handed, so will use these excuses. The print quality seems very good, but have not yet printed a colour photo so will hold judgement. It is quite quick and would have had 5* but for the set up, which I can see some people having great trouble.

Great value for money; quality prints, easy to set up.
Great value for money! It was so easy to set it up via an app on mobile phone. We connected all other devices at home such as laptops and work phone. The app is well designed and navigate step by step what to do and how set it up. I still have to work out how to make scanner to create one PDF document, rather than sending the separate pages.

Disastrous Setup Procedure
I have now had my HP Desktop Plus 4120 for about a week and I can generally say that the features and capabilities of the printer are good, especially for the price. However the setup procedure was a NIGHTMARE, hence the 1* rating.I can understand why many of the reviews on this site say the setup procedure is straightforward. I am sure that if you don't experience any problems then it probably is easy going. However it is when you experience problems that the troubles really start. The procedure relies heavily of the 'so-called' HP Smart app to get it right first time. If however you get an error message, there is no explanatory note to say what that error message means and what remedial action you need to take. There is no instruction manual so you are completely at the mercy of the HP Smart App. In the end I was heavily reliant on YouTube videos for setting up the printer. Here are a couple of examples of the problems I was getting during setup:1. At some point during the procedure, you are asked to enter a printer code. When I duly entered the the Printer Code, I got the following message: "Your HP+ printer can't be claimed here. This is a new printer that needs to be set up using the HP Smart software or App." - well I thought that's exactly what I was doing!!. It offered no suggestion what to do next??2. At another point during set up, I got the following message : "Make sure your printer is connected to the internet." - Well how do I know if the printer is connected to the internet? When I go to the Web Services tab from the printers web page, I got the following error message "Web Services Setup in Progress. To see the current status of the process, click 'Refresh'". - When I subsequently clicked 'Refresh' I got the error message "Network Problem click 'Troubleshoot' to diagnose the problem". - When I subsequently clicked 'Troubleshoot' I got the message "The printer could not connect to Web Services" - and so on and so on, round and round in circles!I was at some point in touch with the HP helpdesk via WhatsApp, but he was unable to resolve the issue. So I have now given up trying to get Instant Ink to work which relies on the ability of the printer to connect to the internet. Don't be fooled by the offer of Instant Ink - sounds great but beware you may not be able to get it. Mind you looking at some of the other reviews of Instant Ink, maybe I have had a lucky escape!HP Smart has its limitations too. My iPad is on version Ios12 and you cant download HP Smart there, although my wife's iPad is on Ios14 and it was possible to download it there. As for Android, my phone is on version 4.4.2 and you can't download it there. This does not mean you cannot print from these devices but you will not be able setup, control or scan without HP Smart. Can't prove it, but I suspect that my problems originated from the fact that I initially tried to set it up with the printer connected via USB cable rather than by Wi-Fi - it definitely prefers everything to be done by Wi-Fi - one of my PCs does not have Wi-Fi so I suspect I would have been unable to set it up from there. At some point during setup I got the following message "Printer setup will be easier if you change your computer's connection from an ethernet cable to Wi-Fi. This computer might not be able to find and set up a new printer on your network if you continue with Ethernet. Would you like to switch to Wi-Fi?" From that point on the USB connection was removed (and hasn't been reconnected since!!).As well as trying out the printer, I have also been trying out the scanner. You can either scan from the scanner glass or the document feeder. I was able to put through a 30 page job using the document feeder but I suspect that is near the limit. You can then subsequently save to JPG or PDF. If you select PDF, then you will get one file per batch, whereas if you select JPG, then it is one file per page (which is exactly what I wanted). I also tried putting a stack of photographs through the document feeder - not to be recommended - the glossy surfaces slipped on the rollers and I constantly got document jams.I initially wanted to return this printer to Amazon, but I realised that there are no real suitable alternatives. It appears that Hewlett Packard have cornered the market and wherever you go you are lumbered with the so-called 'HP Smart' application. On the positive side the delivery from Amazon was great, it arrived within 24 hours of ordering on a normal delivery (no Prime).A good printer badly let down by its installation procedure, so my verdict: Amazon 10 Hewlett Packard 0

Instant ink 3 month offer is great!
This was fairly easy to set up compared to what others have said in their reviews. I just thought it was worth highlighting how the 3 month free trial instant ink offer works. That was the bit that confused me. It says on the booklet included that you activate the free trial during set up, but it wasn't obvious. Basically you go through and set it all up and choose your instant ink plan which involves you submitting your payment details. Only after you have done all this, and I panicked that I had somehow missed out on my trial period..., but at the final stage it tells you that your free trial has been activated. The trial is actually a lot better than I thought. It is 4 months, rather than 3, and regardless of the monthly package you have chosen, it is actually 300 pages per month, soI am very pleased with that. :-)
