Ok, so the now rather ancient pressure washer emitted the magic smoke! Being a family of electrical engineers, failures of such things are taken as challenges rather than disappointment, provided we’ve had a good “life” from the gadget. We quickly identified that the motor capacitor had died; fairly evident from the smell and the black “guts” spewing out. Luckily the type, rating and size were still visible and this replacement found on Amazon and ordered within 30 minutes. Less than 24 hours later, the driveway was clean, ready for another winter. If you know what you are doing, this is probably a good replacement for your blown capacitor too. If you “think” you know what you are doing, ask an expert; probably still cheaper than a new gadget.
