Works as expected
Works exactly like you hope it would. The shaft that comes with it will do roughly 25 inches, maybe a little more if you can scrape away the area around the hole. This company also sells extensions which is something you should consider if you have more than, say, ten holes. I say that because you are essentially deadlifting this thing the whole time and it will wear your lower back out after a while if you are doing all the holes yourself. Keep a cordless reciprocal saw and some form of shears handy for any roots you encounter. My suggestion is to keep a firm, but tentative hold on the handles because if you hit any big roots, this thing will spin! Make sure not to tie a knot in your electrical cord for safety because you want this thing to power off if it twists. The cord length is a little short as well so make sure you have an extension cord with you. You should also have some ear protection as the motor will whine loud enough to not bother you once or twice, but a dozen times will damage your ears. Besides that, this thing is a beast and will save you a ton of digging.

It did very well for digging 38 post holes for a 288 ft split rail fence.
I purchased this last August 2024. A couple of months later I finally had an opportunity to put it to good use. I constructed a 288 ft split rail fence along one side of our property line using landscaping timbers. I live up a foothill that borders the Cherokee National forest in east Tennessee at about a 1000 ft elevation. So the ground is a bit rocky. I'm proud and happy that this machine did the job digging the 38 post holes I needed to construct this fence. Now, as some of the other reviews had mentioned, you need to be aware that the auger on occasion will hit a rock or a thick root at times, and the machine will get away from you if you have your finger on the trigger that operates it. Sometimes it's best to quickly let go of it so the machine will shut down and you won't sprain a wrist or arm. In most cases when this happened to me, the machine, not the auger, would turn a couple of times and then stop. So, the bottom line is I have no complaints. I'll be using it again to install another fence row in the near future.

Perfect for fence posts!
This is, so far, a really great product! It's compact and fairly lightweight ( heavy enough that you don't really need to push to get the hole started) with surprising power! I've drilled dozens of holes of varying depths for fence post and for planting small trees. It cuts through small tree roots with no issues. The best part is No Gas to mess with! Just plug it in and go!The only drawbacks I've encountered are:1. You must be very mindful of where the cord is running (this is common sense) but you need to be aware at all times. I tend to put the cord over my shoulder and let it trail behind me.2. There is NO safety stop unless you completely let go! And even then it takes a turn or two to come to a complete stop. So hitting a rock or larger tree root could potentially take you for a ride if you're not paying attention! It doesn't take long to get a feel for what the bit is up against (rocks and roots etc.) and I found that a light grip, just enough to squeeze the trigger and pull the unit up if needed, will save possible sprained wrists.Overall it's a great unit and exactly what I needed. I would absolutely buy another if this one ever quits.

Must be careful
Powerful but had to get used to the swishing when it hit roots. One could sprain their wrist easily.

Be sure to lift up slightly when you hit a rock or root
I just finished digging 69 post holes 20" deep. I used this, Fiskars 60" Steel Posthole Digger, and my Dewalt jack hammer. It seemed like at first anything the size of a golf ball would just about wrench this out of my hands. I was resorting the the jack hammer more than I should have needed to.I also found that although I put the auger on 'X' Marks the spot, the hole might end up offset. Any root or rock might alter the path. What I learned was not to put my weight on it, to lift it up part way often to clear the dirt and dislodged rocks from the hole, and never ever let it corkscrew itself into the ground. When you hit something, lift up until you are just hitting it, but not hard enough to pull the tool out of your hands. Let it hit it for a bit, and then pull up to clear the hole. Repeat. The offending rock will often be cleared when you pull up.In the case where it is a big rock or a large root, The Dewalt jack hammer will cut it in half. a nice chisel bit makes short work of about anything. The Fiskars post hole diggers are the best I've used. You need them to clear the dirt from the hole, but you can also use them to recenter the hole a bit by shaving off one side. The pivot between the handles also marked the top of my hole, so that was handy. In the end, this tool saved me so much work. I would highly recommend for soil that doesn't have a large percentage of rock to soil. My soil was clay, sand, and rock with lots of roots. One thing that surprised me is that grass could cover the cutting edge and keep it from going into the ground. Just lift it up and pull the clump of grass off the sharp edge, and it will go right in.

Saves time and money AND BACK
As long as enough downward pressure is applied but not too much it works GREAT. Those who say it waits their wrists is because they put too much pressure so when it does hit a rock or root it jars the bones. This saved LOTS of time as opposed to a manual post hole digger and is MUCH cheaper than renting for more than a couple of hours.

Good for the money. Nice to be gas free.
I love it so far. I was worried when I opened the package, and there was broken styrofoam packaging. I assembled the machine, took about 5 minutes. Then I was off and running. Pretty rugged machine.Just be careful if you don't have a lot of upper body strength if you are drilling in rocky or rooted soil. It can catch and take off. I would suggest breaking through any tough top layers with a handle shovel before drilling.Great tool for the money.
